So, you might have had a small crush on Ballard Jesperson. Maybe it was his grey eyes or his attitude, maybe even his platinum hair, but either way, you felt attraction to the kid. You hoped you could be even more close to him.

Winona stretched her arms out and grunted softly. "Is there anything we're supposed to be doing?"

Ballard laid his head back against the wall, gently closing his eyes. "Don't think so."

Winona gave an airy laugh. She said her next statement quietly so Ballard wouldn't hear: "Not like the Military Police actually do anything, anyways."

If Ballard had heard, it'd be possible that Winona's statement would hurt his feelings. Possible - not guaranteed. Winona and Ballard had been best friends for a long time, but Winona wasn't afraid to share her opinions with others.

You sat down onto the floor and listened tentatively. The birds chirped outside the window and the sun warmed the room. Winona hummed softly to herself as she stared up to the ceiling, Ballard gently falling asleep with his head against the wall. The world had seemed to stand still and everyone was stuck where they had wanted to be.
