“Are you sure you feel better? We can go home now if you don’t feel like being here.” Nolan said, we just arrived at mom and dad’s house.
“Nolan, I’ve told you ten times, I feel 100% better. Naps solve everything.” I told him honestly.
“Alright…but if you feel sick, we’re leaving.”
”Will you stop? I’ve told you over and over again that I feel fine.” I snapped at him. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to get mad at you.” I said, feeling bad that I yelled at him.
“No, you’re right, I’m being overbearing.” He said. “But I can’t help it, I’ve never seen you this sick before.”
“Can we go? I don’t want to hold up the party.” I asked, unbuckling my seatbelt. Nolan walked over to me and we walked through the front door hand in hand.
“Alexis!” I squealed when I saw Gavin’s fiancée.
“Reagan! How are you feeling? I heard you’ve been sick.” She said and I shot a glare at Nolan.
“What?” He asked in confusion.
“You told them?” I asked angrily. I didn’t want anyone to know.
“No, I didn’t tell anyone.” He said, irritated.
“I told her, Reagan.” Gavin said, clearing his throat.
“Nolan…” I said, walking over to him.
“Can we talk about this, outside?” He whispered under his breath. I could tell he was angry at me.
“Uhh, yeah.” I whispered back. “Hey, guys? We’ll be right back.” I told everyone. They either nodded their head, or murmured something. Nolan walked outside and I followed him quickly. “Nolan…”
”What’s up with you lately? You’re moods keep changing; I can’t keep up with it!” He shouted in frustration, running a hand through his hair in irritation. “And why do you keep getting mad at me? I’m not doing anything wrong!” By this time he was pacing.
“Nolan…I’m sorry.” I said, and my eyes started watering.
“Are you crying?” He asked in shock.
“No.” I said; my voice cracking.
“Reagan…don’t cry. I hate it when you cry. Reg…I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have gotten so mad.” He said, hugging me.
“I’m a horrible person.” I sobbed.
“No…please stop crying.” He whispered sounding pained. After a few minutes, I stopped crying and Nolan pulled away. “Are you better now?” He asked and I nodded.
“Let’s go back in.” I said, wiping my eyes.
“Reagan! Were you crying?” Alexis asked.
“Yeah. It was stupid though.” I muttered.
“Are you feeling better?” She asked and I nodded.
“Way better.” I said and mom came out of the kitchen.
“Reagan sweetie, how are you feeling?” She asked.
“Better. I have no idea what was wrong with me.” I said.
“Well, I made some appetizers.” She grinned.
“Ooh, what kind?” I asked.
“Well, I didn’t really make them; I bought them and heated them up in the oven. I got potato skins with cheese and bacon bits.” She said, going into the kitchen and bringing a plate out. The smell wafted in, and I fought the urge to throw up.
“Are you okay? You look pale.” Mom said, putting the plate down. I looked over to Nolan who was talking to his dad and brothers.
“I...um…I have to go.” I said, running to the bathroom. A few minutes later, there was a knock at the door.
“Reagan, honey?” It was mom.
“I’m sorry.” I moaned, throwing up.
“I thought you said you were feeling better.” Alexis said, coming into the bathroom with mom.
“I was…but the smell…” I trailed off. I saw Mom and Alexis exchange a look.
“When do you usually feel sick?” Mom asked.
“I dunno, right after I wake up, and then practically all day.”
“Sweetie, is there a chance you could be pregnant?”
“No…I’m on the pill.”
“And you didn’t miss a day?” Mom asked.
“I don’t think so….” I said, trying to think back.
“I’m going to run to the drug store.” Mom said, patting my knee.
“Pease don’t mention it to anyone.” I said, this was Gavin and Alexis’s day, not mine.
“Okay. I’ll be back in a few minutes.” She said. A few minutes after she left, there was a knock at the door..
“Reagan?” Nolan asked. “Open the door.”
”No, go talk to your brothers and dad. I’ll be fine.” I said. “Alexis, can you please go distract him? I don’t want him to know that there’s a chance I could be pregnant.” I whispered to my soon to be sister-in-lay.
“I thought you were positive you aren’t.”
“I’ve been doing the math. I’m two weeks late.” I whispered. He mouth formed an ‘o’ and she nodded.
“Hey, Nolan! I haven’t seen you in a while. Come talk to me!” She said, guiding him away from the bathroom. He looked confused, and I would have laughed, if I didn’t feel like crying. Ten minutes later there was a knock on the door.
“Reagan, I’m back.” Mom said, opening the door and walking in, then closing and locking the door quickly. She held up a brown bag and two bottles of water.
“Thank you.” I said, tears prickling in my eyes.
“What’s wrong?” She asked, setting the stuff down and sitting next to me on the floor.
“I’m scared.” I whispered.
“We don’t even know if you are yet.”
“But, I’m two weeks late…”
”Oh…” Well, I got you a few tests.” She said handing me one and leaving.
****
“Reagan, it’s been five minutes. You have to look.” Mom said, trying to coax me to look at the four tests that I took.
“I can’t…I’m scared.” I said.
“Do you want me to look?”
”No. I need to.” I said. There was a knock at the door.
“Reagan, you’ve been in there for way too long. If you don’t feel well, we can go home.” Nolan said from the other side of the door.
“Hold on!” I said, grabbing a test from the sink, taking a deep breath and looking at it.
“What does it say?” Mom asked, I could tell she was excited.
“It…um…looks like you’re going to be a grandma.” I said weakly, staring t the pregnancy test that read ‘pregnant’.
“You’re pregnant?” I looked up and saw Nolan had somehow gotten the door open and the rest of the family were standing behind him looking shocked.
