Late night cravings

I woke up in the middle of the night and sat up, turning on the light.

“Do you know what sounds really good right now?” I asked.

“Sleep?” Nolan asked groggily, covering his face with his pillow to block out the light.

“No, silly.  Ice cream…and bacon.  Ooh! And waffles.  Can we go to Denny’s?” I asked.

“Now? What time is it?”

“Just past midnight.  Now come on! I’m hungry.” I said, ripping the covers off of him.

“Your stomach is a bottomless pit.” He mumbled, getting up and walking to the closet.

“I’m carrying your baby.  Be nice to me.”

“Sorry, dear.”

“Oh! Nolan!” I grinned.  “I felt him move.” I smiled.

“What? Where? Why is he up? It’s late.” He said, sitting next to me and putting his hand on my stomach.

“He has no sense of time.” I cooed, stroking my stomach.  “Now let’s go! I’m hungry.”  I grinned, licking my lips.

“Welcome to Denny’s!” A friendly waitress greeted us when we walked in the restaurant.  “Table for two?” She asked and we nodded.  “Right this way.” She said, walking ahead of us.

“Thank you.” I said when she sat us in the booth.

“It’s a little late to have dinner.” She said absentmindedly.

“We already ate dinner.” Nolan said.

“Then why-”

“I’m pregnant.”

“Cravings?”

“Yeah.”

“Got it.” She nodded, handing both of us menus.  “I’ll be right back to take your orders.” She said, walking off.

“She’s…really friendly.” I said, looking over the menu, even though I already knew what I wanted.

“A little too friendly, don’t you think?”  Nolan asked, raising an eyebrow at me.

“Maybe a little.” I shrugged. “But it’s better than her being grouchy.”

“Have you decided what you want?” She asked, coming back to us.

“Uhh…yeah.” I said.  “I would like a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and could you have it drowned in chocolate sauce?” I asked and she nodded, scribbling it on the notepad.

“Anything else?” She asked.

“Yeah…six strips of bacon and three waffles.” I smiled, handing her the menu.

“And for you?” She asked, turning to Nolan.

“Just a cup of coffee.” He said and she nodded.

“Coming right up.” She chirped, walking away.

“That was yummy.” I grinned when we walked in our house.  “Thank you, Nolan.” I said, kissing his cheek and then hugging him.

He chuckled.  “You’re welcome.” He said, resting his cheek on the top of my head.  “Are you tired?”

“Exhausted.” I yawned and he picked me up, carrying me bridal style. “I can walk, you know.” I laughed.

“So can I.” He grinned, walking up the stairs and putting me under the covers.  “But knowing you, you’d make it halfway up the stairs before asking me to carry you.”

“You know me so well.” I grinned, snuggling under the blankets. “‘Night.” I yawned.

“‘Night.  Love you.” He said, climbing under the blankets and pulling me close.  I drifted off to sleep with a smile on my face.
