Two months passed by, and we were finally unpacked; I was also thirty seven weeks pregnant and the size of a whale.
“I’m taking Brayden to daycare, and then I have to go to work. Are you going to be okay?”
“I’m just going to sit here and be bored out of my mind.” I said, pointing to the couch.
“If you need me, call me. I’ll have my phone on, and my boss knows you’re due soon.”
“Cool beans.” I yawned. “You can go, I’ll be fine.” As soon as Nolan left, I tried to find a comfortable position, but my stomach was inhibiting my movement.
“I can’t wait until you’re born, babies.” I cooed, rubbing my stomach. “So get out.” I was answered by one of the baby ninja kicking my ribcage and I winced. “Okay, okay, it’s up to you…it would be really nice if you could just be born already. Do you know how uncomfortable I am?”
The phone rang and I groaned; the phone was out of reach. I pushed myself off the couch and waddled as quickly as I could to the phone.
“Hello?” I asked breathlessly.
“I was beginning to think you gave up on getting to the phone.” Mom chuckled through the line.
“Mom!”
“How are you feeling, sweetie?”
“Super uncomfortable.”
“I can’t even begin to imagine how uncomfortable it is with two in there.”
“You have no idea.” I groaned. “One of them keeps kicking my ribcage every time I tell them to leave, and after that happens, I’m pretty sure the other one kicks the one who kicked me. It’s a vicious cycle.”
“That’s fantastic.” Mom laughed. “So, I was thinking we’d fly out tomorrow. Is that okay?”
“Of course it’s okay! I really miss you guys.”
“Do you know where there’s any good hotels?”
“Hotels? You guys are not staying in a hotel, I won’t allow it.”
“Sweetie, you’re exhausted, I can tell. Don’t overexert yourself; we’ll be fine in a hotel.”
“Oh, please.” I said, rolling my eyes. “We haven’t seen you guys in two months. You’re staying here.”
“Regan-”
“Do you really want to argue with the pregnant woman?” I growled.
“Fine, fine.” She chuckled. “But you are not allowed to clean, or get ready. You will make Nolan do everything, and you’ll let me help when we get there.”
“Deal.” I grinned. “How’s Izzy?”
“She misses you and Nolan.”
“I miss her too.” I sniffled. “I wish you were here.”
“I wish we were there too.”
“I miss you guys so much!” I bawled into the phone.
“Shh, Reg, we’ll be there tomorrow. I want you to go relax; you’re thirty seven weeks, right?”
“Yeah, why?”
“You’re really close to going into labor, so go. I’ll call you guys later tonight.” She said, hanging up the phone.
*
The next day, mom and dad showed up.
“Mom!” I squealed, trying to stand up from the couch. Nolan helped me up, and she gave me a hug.
“Where’s Izzy?” I asked after greeting dad.
“She wasn’t feeling well, so Ethan is looking after her.”
“Is she okay?”
“She’s probably just coming down with a cold or something. She has Ethan to take care of her.”
“Okay…but who’s looking after Ethan?” I grinned.
“Savannah.” Mom grinned. “She was really upset that she couldn’t come, though, but she really didn’t feel well, and I didn’t want her getting you or anyone else sick.”
“That’s true.” I sighed.
“So how are you feeling?”
“Uncomfortable.” I winced, rubbing my back.
“You okay?” She asked, putting her hand on my arm.
“Yeah, my back just hurts.”
“Go lie down.” She said, helping me up. “I’ll send Nolan up to check on you in a few minutes.”
*
“Nolan, wake up.” I said, shaking him awake.
“Hmm?” He mumbled sleepily. “You okay?”
“I think my water just broke.”
“Holy crap! The babies are coming!” He cried, sitting up. “Are you okay?
“I’m-” I winced as a contraction hit. “-okay.”
He nodded and ran out of the room.
“Mom and dad are up, and dad’s getting Brayden. Can you walk to the car?”
“I think so.” I said, gasping in pain. “I’m fine, let’s just go.” I said, waddling to the car.
Soon enough, everyone was in the car, and Nolan was speeding to the hospital. I was immediately brought to a room, and my doctor came in the room.
“You’re eight centimeters dilated.”
“Seriously? When I was in labor with Brayden it took way longer.”
“Every labor is different. You were probably having contractions long before now, you just didn’t feel them.”
*
“Congratulations! You’re the parents of two healthy baby boys.” Dr. Lee said happily. “What are their names?”
“Zachary Adam and Trenton Parker.” I smiled, looking at the two blue bundles. I grinned at Nolan and he grinned back; everything was the way it was supposed to be.
