“Oh man…this is bad…REGAN CAN YOU HEAR ME?” Payton yelled in my ear.

“Payton, suddup will you?” I groaned and touched my head, gasping when I saw it was covered in blood.

“Oh thank goodness.  Regan, I’m so, so sorry.” She said and I looked around, I was in the car, which was crushed on my side. It all came back to me: we were in an accident.

“Are you hurt anywhere? The paramedics are on their way.” She asked frantically.

“Did you call Nolan?” I asked.  “How on earth am I going to get out of here?”

“The telephone operator said not to move you unless you were in danger.” She said and a fireman tapped Payton on the shoulder.

“Excuse me, ma’am, the paramedics are here, they want to check to make sure you aren’t hurt.” He said and she shook her head.

“No, help my friend, she’s pregnant.” She said.

“We’re going to get her out of the car as quickly as possible.” He said and a paramedic gently led her to an ambulance, as she was leaving, she mouthed ‘I’m sorry’. Minutes later I was out of the car and in an ambulance with a paramedic shining a light in my eyes and telling me to follow the light with my eyes, and another applying pressure to the side of my head.

“Does anywhere else hurt?” The paramedic who was blinding me with lights asked.

“My wrist.” I said, slowly becoming aware of the painful throbbing in my wrist.  He gingerly took my wrist in his hand and I jerked it back.  “Well don’t touch it!” I snapped.  The ambulance stopped and the doors opened; we were met by a nurse with a wheelchair.  I was helped into the wheelchair and winced when my wrist was jostled.  This sucks.  As soon as I was in a room, my head was stitched up and Payton was by my side in an instant.

“I’m so sorry!” She said, tears were in her eyes.

“Have you called Nolan?” I asked, wanting to see my husband desperately.

“I knew I was forgetting something.” She said.

“Sweetie? We’re going to check on your baby and then X-ray your wrist and head.” She said and I nodded.  “Do you want to call your husband?” She asked and I bit my lip, willing myself not to cry.

“Yes.” I choked out as another nurse came in with an ultrasound machine.  I dialed our home phone and Nolan picked up on the second ring.

“How are you guys doing?” He asked me.

“Uhh…”

“Regan, what’s wrong?” He asked.

“We were sort of in a car accident.” I said.

“WHAT?! Are you alright?”

“I think so, they’re checking on the baby right now.” I said, sighing in relief when they found a heartbeat.

“I’ll be right there.” He said.  “Which hospital are you at?”

“Uhh…St. James”

“I’ll be there soon.  I love you.” He said, hanging up the phone.

“Your baby boy is perfectly healthy.” The nurse smiled.  “But we’re still going to want to keep you overnight to monitor you two.” She said.

“Thank you.” I grinned, overjoyed I was still pregnant.

“Now for the X-rays and head scans.” She said.

“Payton, are you alright” I asked and she nodded.

She held up her bandaged arm. “I just needed a few stitches on my arm.”

By the time Nolan finally got here, all the scans and X-rays were done and I was just done having a purple cast put on my wrist.

“Regan!” Nolan exclaimed, bursting into the room.

“Nolan! I’m so glad you’re here.” I smiled.

“What happened?” He asked, eyeing my cast.

“It’s just a fracture.” I shrugged and he pulled me into a comforting hug.

“You have no idea how worried about you I was.” He said, burying his face in my hair. “Is the baby okay?” He asked, gently touching my belly.

“Yep, his heartbeat is strong.  They just want to keep me overnight to make sure the baby is okay and that I don’t develop a concussion.”

“Concussion? What-” he started and then hissed quietly when he saw the stitches. “How many?” He asked.

“I think ten or so, I lost count.”

“I called everyone else.” He said and I smiled at him.

“Thank you.” I said as the door was flung open.

Gavin strolled into the room casually. “You shouldn’t let cars attack you.” He said and I rolled my eyes.

“Gee, thanks for the advice.”

“No problem!” He said, sitting in one of the chairs.

“Regan, sweetie, are you alright?” Mom asked and I nodded.

“It’s just a few stitches and a fractured wrist, the baby is fine, too.” I said and she sighed, giving me a hug.

“Sissy!” Izzy cried, jumping onto my bed.  I smiled, she hasn’t called me that in years. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fantastic, sweetie.” I said.

“Oh good.” She sighed.

“Is Payton okay?” Nolan asked.

“Yeah…where is she, anyways?” I asked.

“She said something about a dress…and threatening to tackle you if you didn’t buy it.” He said, confused.

“My clothes!” I shouted.  “Give me my phone.” I said, holding my hand out. Nolan handed me it silently as I dialed her number.

“Did you save them?” I asked when she picked up.

“Yeah! I was about to punch the tow-truck guy, though.” She grumbled.  “But I saved them! I’ll bring them by in a little while.” She said.

“Thank you.”

“It was the least I could do.”

“Don’t go feeling all guilty.  I’m fine, the baby is fine.  We’re all fine!” I said.

“Yeah, you’re right.  Bye!” She said, ending the call.

“Did you get a lot of clothes?” Nolan asked warily.

“Not that many. I did get a dress for our anniversary though.  This cast is going to ruin it though.” I said, scowling at my arm.

“That’s next week, right?” He asked and I rolled my eyes.

Yes it’s Wednesday.”

“I knew that…I was just making sure…you…knew?”

“Nice save, Nolan.” I said sarcastically and yawned.

“Sleepy?” Nolan asked and I nodded. “Go to sleep, we’ll be here when you wake up.”

“Don’t go.” I said, scooting over and patting the spot next to me.  He chuckled and lay down next to me, putting his arm around me and I drifted off to sleep quickly.
