Farewell

Mom and I went to grandpa’s place on a Saturday morning, mom drove the car while I seat next to her and ask me something, “Tell me about your friend Nathan.” She said as she smiles.

“Nathan? He’s my friend.”

“I’ve been seeing him a lot lately, is there something that I should know?”

“Mom! His the only friend I got now after Abby moved away.” I told her as I look out of the window,

“Oh, right. I’m sorry sweetie.” Mom said as he held my hand,

“It’s ok mom.” I said as I held her hand back. Mom drove less than an hour and we arrived at grandpa’s house. I immediately opened the door as we arrive and wait for mom to get out. Mom bought cookies for grandpa and I bought nothing. As we walks towards their front porch and mom knocks on the door, I saw something familiar on their front yard; I know I saw them before. I know I did.

I heard the door cracks as it open and it caught my attention, I saw grandpa right away and he gave me a smile, “Come on in.” he said. Mom and I enter Grandpa’s house, he led us to his living room and sat there, by the way grandpa’s living alone right now after his wife died a few years back. He doesn’t want to move with us because he doesn’t want to leave the memories that his wife and him had. I can see grandpa’s sad eyes and I know he misses grandma so much. Mom gave him the cookies the she brought and I didn’t know that grandpa liked cookies very much. Both of them talked to each other and exchange smiles.

It was late afternoon when mom went to the kitchen and prepares some snacks for us and grandpa and I was left out. I’m not pretty close to my grandpa but I know he’s a nice guy. He sat next to me and asked me things, “Time surely comes fast, look at you now, such a pretty young girl.”

“Guess I inherit it to my mom.” I said as I smile.

“I guess not, I guess you inherited it from your grandma.” He said as he laughs. “Oh, by the way how’s school?”

“It’s fine, nothing special.” I said,

“But I heard from your mom that there’s a guy who’s always with you.”

“What? Nathan? No, he’s just my friend.”

“So, Nathan is his name. I wanna meet him someday. Will you let me?” he said as he gives me a smirk

.

“Grandpa! Stop it!” I shouted.

“I’m just joking my dear.” He said, “But I really wanna meet him.”

“Grandpa!”

“Ok! Ok! I’ll stop.” He said.

Mom came in and we ate the snacks that she made and after that, I went to grandpa’s backyard and sat there for a moment. I still remember when I was still a kid I used to play here with dad. He even builds a tree house for me there. I went close to the tree where my tree house is and tried to climb it, but my shoulder’s still hurts from the incident that had happened before and instead I just walk around the backyard and sat on the swing that grandpa made for me. I know it’s old but I still sat on it. Luckily it didn’t broke. “Sam! It’s time to go!” mom shouted.

“Coming mom.” I shouted back. I went inside the house and dusk off my shoes before entering and went to them.

“See you soon dad.” Mom said as she gives him a hug.

“See you soon.” Grandpa’s said to mom. He turn to me and gave me a hug, “See you soon sweetie,

and the nest time you’ll come here, be sure to bring Nathan.” He said as he winks at me.
