Leap of Fate
I look up to him, slowly my lips is forming into a smile. Its funny hearing the wind rushing through my ears, the feeling like time had just stopped.
"Sam." I heard him said, slightly drifting my attention on his back ear.
"Hmm." I manage to murmur, "I like you too but not the way you like me, " I said as I lowered down my head "I'm sorry, I think..." as I can feel my tears slowly building up in my eyes.
"Don't talk, I understand. Maybe I'm just too fast." I heard him said, why am I feeling this way? why am I crying?
"Nathan." I said under my breath, suddenly a harm feeling is starting to creep in my back slowly and then I found myself lock into Nathan’s arms. I don’t know what I should do, standing there won’t do anything but it seems that I was frozen.
I came home without mom and dad noticing me. I climb into bed right away; ignoring the fact that grandpa was lying at the other side. I didn’t bother to change my clothes or wash up; I just need to rest, to think about the things that is building up within me.
"Sam." I heard grandpa say under his husky voice.
"Mmm." I said as I try to open my eyes.
"Your phone’s ringing." He said as I heard him went back to sleep. I grab my phone from my pocket and answer it without looking who it was, "Hello?" I said with my weak voice.
"Hey Sam," a soft voice said, "are you sleeping?"
"yea." I said as I try to get up from bed.
"I guess I’ll..." I heard her said but I cut her off. "No. I'm up now."I said as I walk towards the balcony feeling the cool breeze and letting out a deep sigh.
"So Sam?" She said. Finally realizing it was Abby on the line.
"Yes?" I said as I waited for her to speak back.
"I heard Nathan just confessed to you?" She said keeping her voice calm.
"Yes, did he tell you?" I said as I push my hair back.
"He told me everything, about you crying." She said and a silent went by, "why did you cry Sam?"
"I don’t know either. It’s pretty complicated Abby. I don’t know how should I explain it because I myself am pretty messed up." I said as I let out a soft groan.
"Sam tell me, do you like him?" She asked and it sink in to me, do i really like nathan, did i cried because my heart was broken?
"I don’t know Abby, but I know you like him." I said, without realizing that I just said that to her.
"Sam." She said and I heard her breath in, in the other line, "That was before Sam. I don’t like him anymore. I like someone else now. So tell me Sam is that the reason why you cried? You thought that I still like him and you picked our friendship over him?" She said and for a moment there I found myself tearing up. I don’t know what I should feel l, I don’t know what I should say.
"Sam I know your still there and Sam I know that you like him too." She said and I realize all the things that she just said are true. I did pick our friendship and I do like Nathan.
"Sam don’t be a coward tell him before its too late." She said and suddenly she cut the line.
"I like Nathan?" I murmur. Looking straight out of nowhere. Looking for some light. Then I received a text message.
"Sam, be strong I know you can do it. Just this once Sam, believe in yourself. “It’s from Abby, looking at it she really want me to tell Nathan that I like him, but how? We'll be going home tomorrow. I don't want to tell him by phone. I want to tell him in person, like he just did. I let out a deep breath and there I have an idea.
"Moring Sam." Mom said as she kissed my forehead, "start fixing your things we'll leave in an hour." Mom said as she open the door and went down stairs.
I quickly fix myself up and then my things; I went down and grab some breakfast. I found grandpa sitting on his rocking chair while looking straight in the fire. "Hey grandpa." I said as i tapped his shoulder.
"Hello there sweetie, will your friend Nathan will come here to see you off?" He asked.
"No he won't. So grandpa I’ll miss you." I said as I hug him.
"I'll miss you too Sam, don’t worry we'll see each other some other time. Maybe I'll visit you during your summer vacation." He said as he pushes my hair.
"I can’t wait to see you then." I said as I snuggle him more.
"Oh dear." He said.
"Come on Sam, we need to go or we'll be caught by the traffic." Dad said as he quickly said goodbye to grandpa and so do mom.
I quickly went in the car, resting my head by the window and looking at the neighborhood which is slowly fading away from my sight. I closed my eyes thinking if my plan will work out. if Nathan will appreciate it, I know he will, I hope he will.
“Sam, we’re home.” Mom said as she tapped me on the shoulder, I slowly open my eyes, sunlight hitting me and I crawl out of the car. Dad already fixed our things so all I need to do is to get my butt out the car. I slowly walk through our lawn, slowly scratching my eyes.
“Tomorrow’s another day.” I said under my breath.
