Almost
As we enter the small boutique shop there’s no one in but the door is still open.
“Hello?” Nathan said as we sneak in. we walked through the counter and still no one answered us. Mary was holding my hand and as I look at her I can tell that she’s pretty nervous on meeting this person.
“Sam!” I heard Nathan called me out.
“What?” I said as I turn my head toward him and as I sweep my hair I saw the old lady standing by the shelves. I look directly in her eyes and by the time that I was about to walk up her Mary let go of my hand and walked towards her. Nathan and I stood still and watched both of them talked, if only I can hear them
“Sam.” Nathan said as he held my hand and look straight into them, “You think that girl has something to do with my Grandma?”
“I don’t know but I guess she does.” I said as I grip his hand, “By the way Nathan..”
“hmm.” He said as we look into each other’s eyes. “My granpa…”
“What about him?” he asked.
“He is Gale.” I said as I can the shock look into his eyes and I can see that his jaw almost drop, “And he wants to see Mary and she wants to apologize to her.”
“This can’t be.” He said as his eyes stayed on mine.
“Nathan.” I said as I grip his other hand, “Please Nathan help me, he’s been looking for Mary for a long time now.”
“I..I will.” He said as e held me into his arms, “It’s been hard for you huh?” he said as he tightens his grip on me.
“Yes.” I said and hug him back.
“We’ll make everything work.” He said as he let go of me and held both of my shoulder and look into my eyes,
“Natha…” I said but he puts his finger on my lips and he just smiled at me.
“Shhh.. everything we’ll work out just fine.”
We look at Mary’s direction and by the time she twist and head towards us there was a smile on her face and there are traces of tears on their eye,
“Nana, are you ok?” Nathan said as she held her hand.
“I’m ok, everything’s fine.” She said as she smiles at Nathan.
“Sam.” The old lady says,
“Hmm...” I said as I turn my head to look at her.
“Sorry for not telling you, but I was pretty shocked about what happened to Mary.” She said as she held her hand, “But still you’re lucky that you found her, I bet that old man will be happy if you tell him.”
“uhm.. By the way, what’s your name?” I asked her.
“Oh, sorry, I’m Zoe by the way.” She said as she smiles at me, “Gale’s ex girlfriend, and I think you know my granddaughter who is named after me?”
“Zoe Hales?” I asked.
“Yes.” she said, “have you found a lucky charm on your classroom last year?”
“Yes, it‘s in a box.” I said,
“That belongs to Mary.” She said,
“How D…” I said but she smiled at me and said, “It’s from Gale, I never had the chance to give it to her.”
“But why did you hand it to me?”
“Because I know that you’ll meet her someday, and I don’t have the courage to face her after all I did in the past.” She said,
“What did you do?” I said,
“Better asked Mary about it.” she said.
“Sam, let’s go.” Nathan said as she held my shoulder.
“Ok.” I said as I look at him.
“See you, Take care.” I said as I wave at Zoe.
While we’re walking down the neighborhood Mary said something to us, “I think faith guide us to see each other, for both of you to know one another.”
“Nana...” Nathan said as she look at her and held my hand tightly,
“You wanna see him?” I asked and a pair of deep brown eyes gazes up to me
“Sure.” She said and a smile widened up on her face.
As we reached their house Mary looked into my eyes and said, “I’m happy that I’ve met you, and I’m happy that Nathan has you.”
“I’m happy too that I’ve met both of you.” I said as I smiled at her and Nathan looked into my eyes and give me a smile.
“I’ll walk you home.” He said as he reached out his hand on me.
“Be careful.” Mary said as she waves at us.
Nathan and I walked together hand in hand, the wind seems to blow more quietly and the moon shines more brightly at us.
“You know what Sam.” Nathan said as she looks up on the moon.
“What?” I said as I look into him and went closer by his side.
“You light up my gloomy world like the moon light up the whole world.” He said as I can see his lips forms into a smile and slowly look into my eyes.
“Nathan.” I said under my breath but he cuts me off by a kiss. A kiss that I can never forget, the kiss that turns my world upside down. I can feel his hands holding both of my cheeks and I can fell the warmth that his giving me and I can feel that air swirl around us.
“I love you Sam.” he said as he place his forehead into mine. “I hope it reached you.” A small smile form into my lips as I said these words, “I love you too Nathan and it surely reached me.” That night was very unforgettable for both of us. As I reached our house mom was smiling at me and dad too, I bet mom told him that I’ve already met Mary and I know someday they’ll see one another again.
The next morning as I went to school with Nathan and Zoe and for my surprise Mr. Patterson called me and said, “Sam can I talk to you?”
“Yes.” I said as I walked towards him.
“Will you promise me that you’ll tell the truth.” He said as those eyes focus on mine.
“Y...Yes.” I said as I take a deep breath.
“Are you related to Gale Hughes?” He said,
“Yes, his my grandpa.” I said and for a moment there Mr. Patterson’s eyes widened.
“What about Mary? Do you know her?”
“Yes, she’s Nathan grandma.” I said and there it is again.
“Can you give this to her.” He said as she handed me an envelope.
“Sure.” I said and grab it from his hand.
“You better go now, you don’t want to be late.” He said as he flashes a smile to me like nothing happened.
I went into our classroom and I sat on my chair when suddenly Nathan approached me,
“Hey what’s that?” he asked.
“I don’t know either, Mr. Patterson want me to give this to your grandma.” I said as I place it inside my bag.
“So you’re going to come over later at our place?” he said and a grin form on his lips.
“I guess so.” I said and smile at him.
Through the entire day all I can think about is how Mr. Patterson knows our grandparents, are they friends or something?
