 Sad Green Eyes

It’s been weeks since Nathan left, I tried to call Abby but she’s always out or doing something. I need someone to talk to, I need someone to fill up the hole in my heart, and I need someone to hold me when I cry. I’ve been going to school alone, I’m looking forward for the holiday to come, where we spend our days in grandpa’s house.  One day after my class with Mr. Patterson, he called me and talks to me that late afternoon.

“Sam, are you alright?”

“Yes, sir.” I said back.

“I think you don’t.” he said as he patted my head. “Tell me Sam, what is it? Is it because Nathan gone too?” I went silent for a moment and manage to give an answer to him.

“He’s not gone, and he never will.” I said as I lowered me head.

“Oh Sam, I know. I know Nathan will be back and so do Abby.” He said as he lowered down and look into my eyes, “Sam, just stay strong ok. Try to find some new friends while they’re gone, so you won’t feel lonely.”

“I can’t.” I said.

“Why is that?” he questioned back.

“It’s because…”

“I know Sam, because you’re too shy. I‘ve notice that since the first time I saw you.”

“How did you…”

“It’s because of those sad green eyes.” He said, “Don’t worry Sam; I know you’ll manage to make new friends.” He said as he smiles at me.”I better go now, have a nice lunch.” He said as he waved at me and went out. I stood there for a few second and try to sink in the words he said to me.

“My sad green eyes?” I muttered.

“What are you talking about?” an unfamiliar voice said to me. I look back and I saw a girl chewing her sandwich in her mouth, she had a short blond hair, blue eyes and a white complexion.

“Who are you?” I asked her.

“You don’t know me?!” she surprisingly said, “We’ve been classmate through the whole year yet you don’t know my name.”

“Sorry, I’m not good in names.” I tried to cover up.

“Hmm.. Ok. I’m Zoe. Nice to meet you.” She said as she swallows her sandwich.

“I’m…”

“You don’t need to tell me, I know you, you’re Sam and your best friend is Abby and Nathan.” She said as she smiled at me.

“How did you know?” I was shocked that she knows too much about me.

“I’ve been seeing you a lot together, and I’m Abby’s friend too and she told me about you.” She said,

“She did? But she never told me about you.”

“I don’t know about that.” She said as she continues to bite her food. “Aren’t you going to grab some food?”

“I was going too.” I said.

“Come on let’s go.” She said excitedly as she grabs my hand. We went to the cafeteria together and I saw Mr. Patterson there, he gave me a nod and smile at me. We went to buy some sandwich and some drinks for me and find somewhere to sit at but bad luck hit us. Every single table is taken.

“Where should we sit?” I asked Zoe.

“I know a nice place.” She said as she smiles at me. “Come on, come with me.” We went out the cafeteria and turn at the corner of the hallways where the fire exit was located. It has a huge space, no one was there and I can feel the air rushing through my face.
