I feel kinda of bad because I had to turn town Liam's invite to a movie tonight but god am I excited for tonight. I didn't tell Liam I had a date tonight with Hunter, I just told him I had a big family dinner tonight and we could do it another night. I feel bad for lying but it's better then being like 'sorry Liam I can't go out with you tonight because your brother beat you to it.' Yeah no.
Now how am I going to tell my mom I have a date, I've been on dates before but not with someone that I actually really liked and since how upset I got after the last boy I really like I have a feeling she will be very cautious about Hunter.
I walk into my house quietly and slowly. Trying to slip away and tell her when she is busy. "Quinn? Is that you?" Well there goes my swift entrance.
"Yeah mom it is, what's up?" I ask starting to make my way to the stairs.
"Do you have any plans tonight?" She asks wiping her hands on her apron.
"Um why?" I ask raising an eyebrow at her question.
"Your sister wanted to go to a movie tonight with one of her friends, she kept talking about how important this movie is to her." My mom says rolling her eyes.
"Um actually I do have plans. I actually have a date tonight." I say with a small smile.
My mom breaks out into a smile. "That's awesome Quinn, who's the lucky boy?" She asks with a wink.
"Hunter." I say looking down at my shoes. "We are just going to dinner tonight." I quickly add on.
"That's fine, it's a school night so be back by 11 and I should be home by then." She gives me a kiss on the cheek and I make my way upstairs. Well that was easy.
Before I'm even two steps into my room my phone starts to ring. I press accept already knowing who it is, "Ellie what could you want now?" I ask walking over to my bed.
"Quinn you better not be laying on your bed, you have four hours to get ready. are you sure you don't want me over to help you?" Ellie quickly rambles.
"No." I say getting out of bed, "I'm getting up now."
"Good, you better not be late, or chicken out." She threatens.
"Or what?" I asks rolling my eyes even though she can't see it.
"I- JUST DON'T QUINN!" She yells before hanging up the phone. I chuckle and get up to take a shower.
After my shower (and procrastinating,) it's about four and Hunter will be here around seven. I have another three hours to do whatever I want.
I was thinking about grabbing something to eat but we are going to dinner and I don't want to ruin my appetite. After going through all of my possible choices I decide to just finish getting ready.
I sit at my vanity and plug my hair dryer in and take my towel off my head. I look at my self in the mirror with my hair soaking over my face. I break concentration when I hear my phone ring again. I look at the contact name and press ignore. I'm not in the mood to deal with Ellie's nagging. I grab my blue brush that I've had forever and run in through my knotty hair. I turn the blow dryer on and dry my hair.
My phone rings a third time and I decide to answer it, if I don't she will come over here and I don't want that.
"Ellie what could you possibly want?"
"I'm just making sure your on schedule." She says into the phone.
"What schedule?" I ask confused doing a little spin in my chair.
"You know; the schedule. Like you should have showered and blown dry your hair now and now you need to curl it and put makeup on. And that will leave you with about a half hour to get dressed and relax." She says all at once taking a deep breath at the end of it.
I don't say anything for awhile. I begin to form words when she shouts 'NOW HURRY UP!" And she hangs up the phone leaving me in complete confusion. I take a minute and plug my curling wand in and pull out some of the makeup Ellie gave me. Now I'm not a big makeup everyday girl but for special events I say what the hell and throw some on.
While the curling wand is heating up I apply nude shade of eyeshadow and some mascara.
I quickly curl the ends of my hair to a loose look and slip on my black toms with little wedges on the bottom. I decide to just ignore Ellie and grab my bag.
I guess I didn't really take into account of how much time goes by getting ready when you really do care how you look.
"Quinn!" My mother yells from down stairs.
"Yeah?" I yell back. I don't get an answer and I make my way downstairs. "Mom what is it-" I stop when I see my mother having a full blown conversation with Hunter. And might I add a very put together, good looking Hunter.
I smile and sit back and watch for a moment as everything plays on. Hunter gives my mother one of his signature smiles and she sends him one of her signature laughs in return. Watch for about two minutes when Hunter spots me and his smile grows. My mother turns around and catches me as well.
"Quinn, there you are," she says backing away from Hunter.
"Hello," I say with a smile making my way down the rest of the stairs.
"I'll have her back by 10," Hunter says very adult like.
My mother rolls her eyes, "honey we both know that's unlikely, just try to get her back in one piece." Hunter chuckles and I roll my eyes.
"Bye mom, see you later." I say as she gives me a kiss on the cheek.
"Have fun Quinn, love you." She says as I walk to Hunter.
"Love you too." I say closing the door. I look at Hunter, "You look good."
"So do you," he says giving me a genuine smile. I smile as well and watch him open the passenger side of the door for me.
"Such a gentleman tonight Avery." I say getting into the car. He walks around the front and gets in on his side. I wait for his smart comment about it but he says nothing.
He starts the car up and looks at me, "did I tell you how amazing you look tonight?" A warm blush attacks my cheeks. He completely ignored the chance he had to be smart with me.
"Yeah, you did." I say shyly.
"Well it's true." He says pulling out of my driveway.
We sit in silence as songs play on the radio. Instead of pulling up to a restaurant like I figured we pull up to a beach.
I give him a questioning look as he opens his car door. "Go with it Quinn." He states walking around to my side and opening my door. I give him a questioning stare and get out of the car.
He takes. My hand and leads me down the beach. "Okay wait if we are going on the beach, these things need to go." I say pointing to my shoes. I unlace the fronts of them and slip them off and carry them with my open hand as Hunter continues to pull me further down the beach.
We come across a little table that's lit up with a million candles. He ushers me ahead of him and I walk over to the table and take a seat in one of the chairs.
"Pizza? Very romantic Hunter." I say chuckling.
"I'm not a very big romantic type. And plus I figured you liked pizza." He says taking a seat across from me.
"Well your not wrong, it's a very safe move Avery." I joke taking a bite of my pizza.
"I've got something else planned for tonight, that you might not think is," he pauses for a minute, "the smartest idea."
I smile, "can't wait to see it."
