Jada
I turned off the running water and stared down at the empty sink. I felt my heart pounding in my chest. My vision became blurry, the room started spinning then everything went black.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Mommy!" I heard Justice cry out.
I fought hard to open my eyes but I couldn't. I heard heavy footsteps approaching, most likely August's. I felt tiny hands trying to shake me awake but I couldn't open my eyes.
"JADA!" August yelled, I felt his hand on my face.
I heard him talking probably on the phone. I felt myself being lifted up, I could hear sirens in the distance.
"What happened?" I heard a female voice ask.
"I don't know I was in the living room while she was doing the dishes."
"It looks like she's going into shock we gotta get her to the hospital fast."
There were a lot of voices along with the sirens, they grew louder until I couldn't hear or feel anything.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up in an empty room, it was fairly dark out. I was laying down on a twin sized bed. I could hear footsteps approaching I sat up in the bed just as the door opened.
James walked into the room and closed the door locking it behind him. He walked over to the bed and sat in the armchair beside the bed. He reached out and brushed the hair from my face.
"You're looking a lot better." James said smirking.
"What are you doing here?" I asked wincing at the sudden sharp pain in my arm.
"Don't touch it." James said holding onto my hand.
"Why not?"
"Because it's only going to make it worse."
"Aren't you supposed to be dead?"
"I'm not, I'm still alive. Just hiding waiting for the right time to show my face."
"I don't believe you."
"Why not? You can trust me."
"Really? I don't think I can."
"Why not?"
"You ask a lot of questions."
"Why would you fake your own death?"
"It's not important. Now get some rest."
I laid back down on the bed and closed my eyes. I felt a soft peck on my forehead. The door opened and closed leaving me alone in the dark room. I suddenly felt like I was falling, into a pit of darkness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was suddenly jerked awake, I was in a hospital. I looked over and saw August standing there. I cleared my throat and looked at him.
August
I gave Jada a weak smile as I walked over to her. I rubbed her cheek, the color was completely drained from her face.
"How are you feeling?" I asked shyly.
"I have a headache and my arm hurts." She whined holding her head.
"Everything is going to be alright. I'm here for you."
"I have to tell you something."
"What is it?"
"We can't talk about it here."
I nodded my head and looked at the ground. I could feel her staring at me trying to figure out what I was thinking about.
"Do you remember anything that happened?" I asked desperate to change the subject.
"No, the last thing I remember is washing the dishes."
The doctor walked into the room and looked at Jada.
"I'm glad to see you're awake."
"Is something wrong with her doc?"
"There are numerous reason as to why you could've passed out like that. We just need to run a few more tests to be sure."
"Ok." Jada said more to herself than to the doctor.
I looked down at my shoes unsure if I should say something or just let the doctor talk to Jada.
"I'll send someone in her to take your blood and we might have to scan your brain to see if anything is wrong."
The doctor walked out closing the door behind him. I looked over at Jada to see that her face had dropped at those words.
"I don't think I'm going to like this at all." Jada said nervously.
"It's going to be alright." I whispered softly. "I'll be by your side every step of the way."
The room was silent and I could tell that Jada was scared. Jada let a couple tears fall from her eyes. I sat on the edge of the bed carefully. I pulled her into a hug and she seemed tense still.
"Jada is there something you aren't telling me?"
"Please I don't want to talk about it right now."
Jada laid her head on her pillow, she had a sad expression on her face.
"Do you trust me?"
"No, not really. I have a lot on my mind and I don't think I can trust anybody right now."
"That's understandable."
"Where are the kids?"
"They're in the waiting room with Lani and Chris. I think it's best that they don't see you like this."
"Go be with them."
"Excuse me?"
"They need you more than I do."
"Actually they need you. They need you to be alright."
"I heard her yell."
"Heard who yell?"
"Justice, she was yelling for me."
"Do you remember anything else?"
"I remember fighting to open my eyes but not being able to. She must've been scared."
"Jada calm down your heart rate is increasing."
We both looked at the machine, then back at each other.
"Please try to relax we don't need you passing out again."
"I'll try."
Something was bothering Jada, and I was going to find out what it was.
