Chapter 26: Uninvited Guest pt.1

"So, who's making dinner tonight?" Jada asked.

"We could make it." Chris said looking at August. "It's the least we could do."

"I'll take the kids to my cousin, Kiara's house for the sleepover." Jada said grabbing her car keys. "Lani you coming for the ride?"

"Of course." Lani said grabbing her jacket.

Jada picked up the kids' overnight bags then led the way to the car. Lani out the kids in the backseat while Jada put their bags in the trunk.

Jada pulled out of the driveway and got on the highway heading for Kiara's house, leaving August and Chris in charge of dinner.

"What should we make?" Chris asked as we walking into the kitchen.

"I don't know." I replied shrugging my shoulders. "Maybe we could make some chicken."

"Sounds like a plan."

Chris and I had finally finished dinner when the doorbell rang. Chris and I exchanged a look before we went to go answer it. I opened the door to see a strange man standing there.

"Can we help you?" Chris asked.

"I'm looking for my friend Jada." The man said. "I was told she lives here."

It was kinda dark outside so it was hard to see his face.

"Sorry but there's no Jada here."

"That's too bad." Another voice said. "Do you mind if we wait until she returns?"

I was about to tell them no and slam the door in their faces but, Chris spoke.

"Not a problem." He said pushing me out of the way. "Please come inside we were just about to have dinner."

They stepped inside and followed Chris into the kitchen. I sent the guys a text telling them to come over as soon as they could then went into the kitchen as well.

"We really should get going." I said to my cousin Kiara. "We left the boys in charge of dinner tonight."

"Oh no." Kiara gasped. "I hope they don't burn the house down."

I nodded my head in agreement before kissing Aj and Justice goodbye then went out to the car. Lani and I got inside and turned on the radio.

"Do you really think they would burn the house down?" Lani asked as I pulled out of Kiki's driveway.

"No, August knows what he's doing." I paused for a moment to think. "It's Chris I'm worried about."

I continued to drive towards the house. My phone vibrated in the cup holder. Lani picked up my phone and read the message.

"Chris says to pick him up some ice cream on the way home." She said.

I rolled my eyes as Lani searched for the nearest corner store. I followed the gps to a little store around the corner from my grandparents house. I parked the car then went inside. I grabbed Chris's favorite ice cream then went to the counter to pay for it.

"Damn that was fast." Lani said when I got back in the car.

"The faster we get home the better." I replied.

"Let's just hope the house is still standing when we get there." She joked.

I couldn't help but laugh at her. I pulled out of the parking lot then continued driving home.

"Oh look the house is still there." I said as we pulled up. "That's always a good sign."

We got out the car then went inside.

"We're back!" Lani called out. 

"In the kitchen." Chris called back.
