Thomas' POV
-----------------------------------------------------------
I closed the car door behind Peggy and began to walk towards the hospital. I knew what I had to do. I wiped my tears away and entered the building.
I walk back to his room, my hands shaking. I watch as they cover his face with the bedsheets. "Sir," calls a nurse as I walk into the room, "are you in here for a reason?"
"This is his will." I handed her a piece of paper john had slipped to me while we were singing. "I- I have to go now." I walked outside, wiping tears out of my eyes, and decided to take a walk and cool off.
Alex's POV
-----------------------------------------------------------
I woke up to the sound of sirens and looked around in confusion. Why was I asleep in Peggy's car? Why were we parked outside of a hospital. Then it hit me, everything that had happened. John was- John was dead. I looked in the back seat to find Peggy, still sleeping.
She looked so exhausted. There were stains on her cheeks from the tears she had shed, and she had large bags under her eyes. Even though she was sleeping, her hands were curled into tight fists, turning her knuckles white.
I decided it wouldn't be good to wake her up. She needed sleep. I opened the car door and began to walk towards the hospital. I had to tell John's sisters.
I walked into Sarah's room first. She was the oldest, so she deserved to know first. I looked at her and could see the heart break in her eyes. She raised her eyebrows in surprise.
"Alex?" She said looking confused. She had a large bruise on her cheek, and her arm was in a cast.
"Sarah, listen." I grabbed her other hand and turned her to face me. "I hate to tell you this. A few hours ago, we came in to see John. We stayed with him until he- he," I watched the confusion on her face turn to shock. I didn't have to finish my sentence for her to understand what had happened. I pulled her into my arms as she began to cry and I tried to hold back my own tears.
I sat with her for about an hour, then in no more than a whisper, said, "I'm sorry, I have to tell Lily." She nodded understandingly, letting go of me. I left her room as I began to find my way to the younger sister.
Lily didn't take the news as well as Sarah did. I told her the same way, but she began to scream.
"No," she cried, tears streaming down her face, "no its all his fault! I'm going to kill him! I don't care if he's my father!"
I tried to hug her, but she pushed me away. She looked so much like John. They both had the same curly hair, the same freckles. Their nostrils both flared when they were angry or upset. They could've been twins.
I couldn't bear to see her like this. I walked out of the hospital, finally releasing my tears. I would visit the girls tomorrow.
I walked around the hospital, until suddenly I was pushed up against the wall. I stared into the deep green eyes glaring back at me. Henry Laurens, John's father. He took out a switch blade and held it dangerously close to my face.
"You're turningy kids against me," he said, placing the knife on my face. He applied pressure to it, causing my cheek to start bleeding.
"You turned your own kids against you," I retorted back, fighting through the pain, "you're the one who shot John."
I could see his anger grow. He moved the blade from my face to my neck. One more move and I'd be dead. Suddenly, there was a gun aimed at his head. "Drop the knife," said a familiar voice. It was Thomas.
Thomas' POV
-----------------------------------------------------------
I'm glad I had kept the gun my father had gave me. I held it to the strangers head, shaking with anger. Even though I didn't know him, I had my suspicions about who he was. "I said drop the knife." He dropped the knife to the ground, looking as scared as Alex had a moment ago.
"Now take your hands off of him." He removed his hands from Alex's shoulders. "Get out of here!" I yelled, pushing him away from the both of us. The man ran, and Alex slumped.to the ground, beginning to cry.
"Where- where did you get the gun," Alex asked me, still looking confused and scared. I put a hand protectively on his shoulder.
"My dad gave it too me." I looked into Alex's eyes. They were so full of hurt. He had been through so much today. I picked him up bridal style, and he didn't protest. "Let's go to the car," I say as I see his eyelids begin to droop, "we both need some rest."
