Alex's POV
-----------------------------------------------------------
Debate class would always be my favorite, but it did have its downsides. Well, one downside in particular, who went by the name of Aaron.
Professor Washington was letting us have a free debate day, which meant we could debate whatever we wanted, but it had somehow turned into Aaron trying to contradict everything I said. This had evolved into me attempting to present a reasonable argument, and Aaron spewing bullshit like a broken sprinkler.
"Gay marriage is against my religion, which means it shouldn't have been legalized," he ranted, earning scoffs from most of the class, "it's also unconstitutional, and I'm sorryy dimwitted opponent can't see that."
"Aaron, have you read the constitution or the Bible?" I retorted, leaning onto my podium, "the constitution says absolutely nothing about gay marriage, and that one stupid Bible verse is taken way out of context. Please educate yourself before calling me dimwitted. There is no reason gay marriage shouldn't have been legalized, if this is really a free country."
"Well, it's just disgusting, no one wants to see that." That statement actually earned a few 'boo's from around the room. "What would you know anyways, Alex. You're an immigrant. You've been in this country for how long, a few years?"
Now, here's something about me. Insult me all you want, but I'll let it slide right off. Insult my friends, and you're dead. "Why don't you go home with your boyfriend, Alex, that is, unless he's fucking James now."
I lunged at Burr, and he backed away out of my grasp. Thomas, who had been standing behind me, was now holding me back.
"Enough of this!" Washington yelled, "both of you outside, now, until you can contain yourselves. And close the door on your way out!"
I stormed out, Aaron close behind me. "What's your problem?" I scream at him, backing him against the wall, "we used to be friends, Aaron, what happened?"
I was expecting him to yell at me, but he didn't. He just slunk to the ground, tears streaming down his face. "It just isn't fair, Alex," he said shakily, putting his head against the wall, "you've got this perfect life, a relationship, a ton of friends. I have nothing. Theodosia died, and now I have no one."
"Aaron, you should've told me," I said softly, kneeling to meet him, "we could've helped you through this. My life isn't perfect by any stretch, but just know we're here for you, me, Thomas, everyone."
"Thanks, that means a lot," he sniffles, wiping his face, "we should probably go back to class now."
"Yeah, we should," I said, "go get cleaned up, and I'll meet you back inside."
