James' POV
---------------------------------------------------------"He asked you what?" I screamed frantically into the phone, pacing around the room and pulling at my hair out of nervousness.
"He asked me to ask you out on a date for him, something about being too nervous to do it himself," Peggy explained again calmly, "well if you want to go, he said to meet him at his dorm tonight at 8. I think you should go. You two would make a cute couple."
"okay, thanks Peg," I squeaked cursing my voice for cracking. I hung up without giving her a chance to say goodbye. It was already 7:30.
I dug through my closet, finally finding an old suit I hadn't worn in ages. I put it on quickly, smoothing my hair and popping a breath mint as I rushed out the door.Aaron's POV
---------------------------------------------------------It's 7:45, I think to myself, watching the door and tapping my foot nervously, he's probably not coming. He's probably going to blow me off. God I'm stupid.
Thankfully, I'm brought out of my thoughts by a knock on the door. I rush to get up, smoothing out my hoodie, and open the door slowly.
Oh my gods. James was standing at the door, smiling slightly and wearing a tux. I stopped myself from staring and opened the door fully so he could come in. I led him to the couch, too stunned to speak.
"H-hi Aaron," James said softly, looking up at me, "I'm really glad you invited me. It's good to see you."
"uh, it's good to see you too," I stammered out, "but, you didn't have to dress up. Sorry, I should've asked you out myself so I could've told you to dress casually. I'm sorry."
"No, no you're fine," he said quickly, shaking his head and giggling, "at least it's not the most uncomfortable thing I've worn. So what are we doing?"
"Oh, right. I was thinking we could just stay here and watch a movie, maybe make some popcorn. I know you like Percy Jackson. Maybe we could watch the movie? You can borrow some of my pajamas if you'd like, they'll be a little big but I don't mind."
"Sounds great."
After I found James some comfortable sweat clothes and popped some popcorn, James and I settled onto the couch and found the movie. "you know, you can sit closer if you want," I said to James, who had sat on the opposite side of the couch.
"Well I just didn't want to make you uncomfortable and I didn't know how you felt about cuddling or anything-"
"No I'm fine with whatever but you don't have to move if you're uncomfortable or I can even move to the chair or-"
We both continued to ramble, slowly inching closer to each other until we were just awkwardly laughing, inches away from each other's faces. "heh," I whispered, blushing more than should be humanly possible.
"The movie!" James finally blurted out, sitting back against the couch, "we should watch the movie."
"Yeah, that's a good idea," I stuttered, taking a moment to collect myself before turning the lights out and pressing play on the movie. I looked over at James, who was bouncing up and down on the couch with a huge smile on his face, excited for the movie. I sat back down and warily put an arm around him, but he was too glued to the TV to notice.
After about a half hour of watching the movie, we were both ranting, angry about how inaccurate it was. "Why is Percy a teenager?" I yelled, "he's twelve in the book!"
"Yeah, and why is Annabeth a brunette? This is bogus."
"I don't even want to watch this crap!" I said, turning off the TV angrily.
We laughed for a few moments before another lapse of awkward silence settled in. Gods, I forgot how terrible awkward silence is.
"So," James spoke up, grabbing a handful of popcorn, "what should we do now?"
"well, I do have the book series. We could just read together, I mean, if you're okay with that and everything's-"
"sounds amazing," he cut me off, preventing another rambling section. I smiled with relief, then walked to the bookshelf and grabbed the first book off the shelf. I sat back down on the couch, letting James rest his head on my chest and get comfortable before opening the book to the first page.
I looked over at James for a moment, making sure he wasn't squinting to read, before beginning to read and becoming lost in the story.
After a few chapters, I was snapped out of my reading by heavy breathing, or maybe snoring. I looked down at James, who I realized had fallen asleep. I watched his chest rise and fall, a puff of air coming out of his mouth every few seconds as my heart melted. I gently placed a kiss on his forehead, careful not to wake him, before putting the book down and leaning back. I looked at him one more time before closing my eyes and drifting into a restful sleep. "You drool when you sleep."AAAAA OK so I'm sorry I couldn't help myself with references but they're both really awkward nerds who don't know how to function around each other and I love their relationship. I didn't even ship this at first but it's slowly taking my life over. Ok hope yall enjoy love ya BYE!
