Thomas' POV
---------------------------------------------------------
"Everyone ready?"
The group looked like the pride flag had threw up on them. Maria and Eliza wore matching crop tops with the lesbian pride flag printed on them, while flowers in different shades of pinks and reds adorned their heads and the holes in their jeans. Aaron wore a hoodie in the colors of the bisexual pride flag, with the words, "BI BITCH," printed across it. James had a matching one in rainbow colors, the words, "BOYFRIEND OF BI BITCH," across his.
Peggy wore a bright yellow dress, with each of her limbs painted either pink or blue. She wore a flower crown in the same colors and a pair of oversized sunglasses. Alex was shirtless (which I was very, very happy about) with the bisexual flag painted across his chest. I went for a more, erm, simpler approach with pride shirt and rainbow flower crown.
After vigorous nods from the group, I looked over at Alex and smirked. "THEN LET'S HAUL OUR GAY ASSES TO PRIDE!"
Pride could only be described as beautiful. We walked around all day, watching different performances and listening to speeches. The girls entered a high heel race, which Maria won. It was perfect. As the sun was setting and the events were coming to a close, we walked past the youth zone, where a boy with freckles and curly hair was trying desperately to scrub a pride flag off his arm.
Peggy froze on the spot, staring for a moment. "He looks just like John."
"he also looks like he needs some help. Let's go."
We reached the boy, who had two friends to the right of him, also rubbing at his arm. "Come on, we need to hurry," he said, "I told you painting it in nail polish wasn't a good idea."
"Hey," Alex said, holding his hand out, "you look like you need some help. What's your names?"
The boy shook his hand nervously before continuing to scrub at his arm. "I'm Phillip, and I'm gay. This guy is George eaker, he's bi. And that's Theo, she's trans and pan. We're just trying to get all the pride markings off of me before I go home to my homophobic Christian foster parents. Someone..." he glared for a moment at Theo, who looked at him apologetically. "decided it was a good idea to use nail polish to paint a pride flag on my arm."
"Well lucky for you," Maria spoke up, letting go of Elizas hand and digging into her purse, "I have some polish remover in my bag. Sit down and let me take care of it for you."
"Fine, but we have to hurry," Phillip said, looking worried, "I already missed my bus, so I have to walk home."
"let us ride you home," I said quickly, without a second thought, "it's the least we can do. And if you need me to, I can put on a hoodie and pretend I'm part of your youth group or something. I know how terrible homophobic parents can be."
"Thank you all so much," he gushed, looking down in amazement at his now bare arm, "well let's go! I can't miss my curfew again!"
We all crammed into the car, Phillip in the front so he could direct me to his house. Alex quickly scribbled his number on his arm "in case he needed more awesome friends". When we finally arrived, I slipped on a black hoodie over my pride shirt before we got out of the car and walked to his doorstep.
Before anyone could open the door, I noticed a pride flag sticking out of his back pocket. I grabbed it and waved it in front of his face before hiding it in my hoodie pocket. "thanks," he whispered before taking a deep breath and knocking on the door.
A woman answered the door, her expression already angry. "Phillip! Where have you been? It's ten minutes past your curfew!"
"that would be my fault," I chimed in, shaking her hand, "my name's Thomas. I go to Phillip's youth group at church. We went to a youth event that lasted a little longer than expected, but I promise we'll get him back on time next event."
"See Phillip?" she said, shaking her head, "these are the kind of people you should be hanging out with, good Christian boys. Maybe they'll find you a nice girl to settle down with. Thank you for getting him home safely, Thomas, good night." she pulled Phillip inside before closing the door, and I left their yard feeling a bit too nostalgic, too many memories of my own parents flooding my head.
