Grayson's Point of View
I tried to hide my smile as the ball hit Macy. She fell to the floor as the coach sent Chloe off the court. When P.E. was over, I went and changed for football practice. When I got out there I started talking with the other guys who had been in class with us.
"So what do you guys think about that girl Chloe?" one of the guys asked.
"I can't believe I never knew she existed, I would have stopped chasing after Alison and just have gone for her," one said.
"Really? She seemed pretty mean to Macy," another said.
"Macy probably deserved it," I said. Did I just defend Chloe?
Thankfully, the coach started practice, and after an hour and a half of vigorous training he let us go. I took a quick shower and went to the hallway where Chloe was working. I saw Mr. Blaise helping her too.
"Chloe, it looks really good especially considering you started it this week," he said. "I'm going to go now, but work on the color scheme tonight okay?"
"Hey, uh you wanna start?" I asked awkwardly.
She looked over at me. "Yeah," she said softly. "Let me just put my paints away and we we can sit in Blaise's room."
Once everything was put away, she took out a notebook and sat across from me. Robin had said we had to spend an hour after school on Monday and Wednesday together, but whether or not we talk was something else. We haven't spoken a word, so I finally decided to break the silence.
"Okay, well um, tell me about your life," I said uneasily.
"What a specific question," she said rolling her eyes.
"I don't know," I said shaking my head.
We sat in silence for awhile and then finally the hour was up and Chloe bolted out of the room. I groaned at this rate I was never going to get this done. I texted my mom and she picked me up ten minutes later.
It was silent for awhile as neither of us wanted to bring up what we had discussed that morning. Finally my mom broke the silence first.
"So how did it go?"
"Uh good," I said.
"Gray I know you're lying," she said.
"Fine, we didn't talk and it's just not working, and I don't want to work with her."
"We'll see," she said smiling, I rolled my eyes and I looked out the window. When we got home, my mom went and made dinner and Julia came into my room.
"What's up?" I ask as she sat on my bed cross-legged.
Do we not like Dad?" she asked.
"Uh why?" I questioned.
"Because mommy says I should get to know him but you don't like him so I don't want you to be mad at me," she explained.
"Listen Jules you can go see him, that's fine I won't be mad at you, but I'm not visiting him, that's all."
"Really?"
"Yeah," I said ruffling her hair slightly.
"Thanks Gray!" She said excitedly running out of my room.
I sighed as I started my homework, after awhile I gave up. I decided to go back to it later. I pulled out my markers and began to resume my drawings on the wall. My mom had been furious when she first saw me do it, but after awhile she stopped caring and let me draw all over them.
After awhile, I heard the doorbell ring. I got to the door to see who it was, but my mom beat me to it and mouthed a quick sorry to me before opening it. She opened the door and standing there was my father.
"Hey Grayson," he said. I glared at my mom before storming back into my room.
"Look John, you can take Julia out, but it's a school night so I want her back by seven, okay?" Mom asked.
"Sure, does Grayson want to come?" he asked.
"No," I shouted from my room. I heard the door shut and the car drive away. My mom came into my room soon after.
"Look Grayson, I know you're mad at him, but he wants to be a part of your life why can't you try?" she asked tiredly.
"Look I'm sorry, but taking me out for ice cream isn't going to make up for missing five years of my life," I said angrily.
my mom sighed and left the room. I was just about to start my homework again when I got a call from Andrew, one of the nicer guys on the football team.
"Did you hear?" he asked.
"Hear what?" I asked
"The school got a huge donation and we're getting all new football equipment!" he said exactly.
"That's amazing," I said trying to sound surprised.
"Okay I got to go to tell the rest of the team, bye," he said.
I hung up and resumed my homework. I guessed Chloe's parents paid off the school after all. After awhile Julia returned, but my dad didn't stick around.
"Hey Julia, did you have fun?" I asked.
"Yeah! He took me to McDonalds!" she said excitedly.
I smiled, my mom then took her and got her ready for bed. When she returned she came and sat on my bed.
"Gray next time, you're going with your dad whether you like it or not," she said sternly. "I don't care if you hate it and don't talk, you're not doing it for him, do it for Julia okay?"
I didn't answer her but we both knew I would go next time. I sighed as I got into bed. Tomorrow was Thursday which meant only two days until a well earned Friday party.
