Chloe's Point of View
I was hanging out in the art room before school when Mr. Robin came in. The two teachers glanced at each other and Mr. Robin signaled towards me. I thought that was strange but maybe he needed to talk to Mr. Blaise in private.
"Uh sorry I can leave," I said awkwardly.
"No don't worry, I actually coming to find you," Mr. Blaise said gesturing for me to sit back down.
"Look Chloe, we really think you could get into art school or something, we have a lot of faith in you, but you have to behave this year," Mr. Robin explained.
"Seriously you need to show these schools who the real Chloe is, which starts with getting good grades and behaving," Mr. Blaise said seriously.
"You guys really think I could get into college?" I asked uncertainly, they both nodded.
"Thanks," I mumbled. They both nodded.
"In other news how are you and Grayson doing with your essays on each other?" Mr. Robin asked.
"Horrible," I said looking at the floor.
"Well get on that too, the principal agreed that if the assignment is completed we won't put the altercation on your record," Mr. Robin explained. I sighed and nodded my head.
Even though Grayson and I had talked a little on Sunday, and I had helped him get a ride home, I still didn't feel much improvement in our relationship other than the fact that we both had our fair amount of shitty parents.
When the bell rang I stood up. "Thanks guys I really appreciate this," I said seriously. They both smiled as I left.
I sat down on homeroom and put my earbuds back in. I heard the seat next to me move, I opened my eyes and looked at the person.
"Hey remember me?" The girl asked sitting down next to me.
"No."
"I gave you the answer in math class once," she tried.
"Oh yeah, Kendall?" I asked unsure.
"Ding ding ding we have a winner!" She said happily.
"Okay?"
"Yes okay! We're going to be bffs," she said confidently.
"No." I said.
She looked hurt for a brief moment but then quickly brushed it off. "It's okay everyone told me stuff about you, but I don't care what they say," she said brightly before talking my ear off the entire homeroom.
I thought if I gave Kendall the cold shoulder she would leave me alone, but no, this girl could talk. By lunch, not only did I know her whole childhood, that she moved here last month, and all her irrational fears, but I also unfortunately discovered we had every class together.
"Chloe? Are you even listening?" she asked pulling me into Chemistry.
"No." I said bluntly.
She blinked once and then laughed it off and dragged me to her desk. I sighed and sat with her, she continued to talk my ear off. The teacher, however, didn't seem to mind she takes throughout the lab, she even gave me a thumbs up for sitting with someone and working together.
After a brutal P.E. class, I went to work on my mural and unfortunately Kendall followed me, after promising to be quiet, I let her stay.
I had done most of it. The beach was done and all the details in the sand had been made. I drew two girls walking on the beach together. Both had electrifying blue eyes and birthstone necklaces. One was in jeans and one was in a dress. When I had finished I took a step back and looked at it all together. It was beautiful. I had made all these tiny references to me and Ali. I knew she would have loved it. I even painted out tiny differences like the freckle above her eyebrow.
It was the little things in our physical appearances that made us different, but it was our personalities that separated us completely. I was quiet and reserved and she was loud and social, while I preferred a book and rock music, she preferred parties and pop music. I remember every time after she came home from a party she would be drunk. I used to ask her what she got out of it and she always said the same thing.
"Chlo it doesn't matter what I get out of it, as long as everyone saw me there, it's all good."
That used to bug me, everyone thought Ali was self-centered, but in her own way she was the most unselfish person I knew. She didn't care about her own happiness, as long as people saw her a certain way she was fine with that. And it broke my heart..
"It's looks really good," Kendall said quietly eyeing my mural.
"Thanks," I said quietly. We started walking towards the parking lot, I was deep in thought when I heard a loud voice.
"Hey did you forget we were meeting?" I turned around and Grayson was running to catch up to me, I stopped and waited for him to catch up. "So are we meeting?"
"Uh yeah I guess, can we meet at Starbucks?" I asked. Kendall nudged my shoulder, I looked at her and sighed. "Can she come too?"
"Yeah I'll meet you there in ten minutes," he replied and went over to where Gavin was standing. they exchange a couple words and Gavin's face lit up. They both then got in Gavin's car and left.
"He's so cute," Kendall mumbled.
I raised my eyebrow at her. "You really want to date a player like him?" I asked.
"No, not Grayson, I like Gavin. He's so sweet and we were talking at this party once, he's a really cool guy," she said dreamily.
After staring at the spot where Gavin's car was for another minute Kendall got in her car and left as well. I got on my bike and got to Starbucks, hoping Grayson and I can put aside our differences and get this stupid essay done.
