I awake to Josh's clammy soft hand resting underneath mine, his breath radiating on my wrist, his head leant down on the edge of the hospital bed as the dark moonlight shines through the window.
I gently remove my hand and grab my phone, turning it on to see the time.
2:38am.
"Josh." I whisper quietly, trying to wake the sleeping boy. He doesn't reply and I try again, desperate to wake him.
"Josh..." I whisper, this time louder, making him wake and lift his head.
"What?" He groans, rubbing his eyes as he looks around.
"Its 2:40 in the morning." I whisper.
"Yeah, so?" He asks quietly.
"I can't sleep." I moan, pulling a pout. He smiles and rolls his eyes, shaking his head too.
"And I care because?" He asks, making me feel embarrassed.
"I'm joking, of course I care." He smiles, standing up.
"Where are you going?" I ask. I don't want him to leave me, I hate being alone.
"No where sweetie, now budge over before I steal the bed to myself. " He laughs, walking over to the over side and lifting the cover, climbing in next to me.
"If I fall out the bed I'm blaming you." I say, slapping his chest playfully.
"Fine by me." He laughs, hitting me back gently despite my still- sore arm.
"Sorry, forget about that. Your friend and the boys left soon after you fell asleep, they said they'll come at 10am or something." Josh tells me.
"Okay." I smile. "I'm not being funny or anything, but is it just me or would Connor and Nadine be like, the perfect couple?" I ask Josh. He smiles and raises his eyebrows.
"Yeah, I guess they would. They just need something to happen between them, like a moment or something." He says.
I smile to myself as a tear rolls down my cheek slowly. Josh notices and slowly wipes it away, his soft finger running up my pale cheek as I turn around, my face now inches away from his as he also intertwines his fingers back into mine.
"Amy, what's the matter?" He asks softly, his soft voice projecting quietly into my ear.
"Its just that- ever since I was little, I'd always imagined becoming a wife, having kids, becoming a singer, having my first kiss, making people happy...and yet all I'm doing is lying in a hospital bed at the age of fifteen, with two months to live and no memories what so ever." I cry again. "And now I sound pathetic and attention seeking and everything I hate." I carry on, as Josh watches the words spill from my mouth.
"No, you don't." He reassures me, once again wiping away stray tears as they drip onto my cheeks. "Everyone needs to cry sometimes. And don't say that, I don't care what the doctors say, don't you ever say that again. You are gonna live. Your gonna have a happy life, with a husband and kids, and your gonna be a worldwide singer and have your first kiss, so don't say that, and promise me you will never say that again." Josh rambles, squeezing my hand tightly as tears start to fall, too many for him to catch.
"I'm not promising anything...but you have to make sure that Nadine and Connor get together, whatever happens." I say, squeezing his hand back.
"No, I won't."
"Why not?"
"Because your gonna be here to help me make sure that happens." Josh says.
"Josh, why are you so certain? The doctors wouldn't lie about something like that, something like this, they wouldn't do that, no one would. I'm ill, okay? I'm ill with a life threatening condition that's killing me slowly, there's nothing no one can do." I say, tears still spilling. I watch as his face drops and tears start to run down his cheek too, making me cry even more.
