"Amy?" My best friend Nadine asks softly, squeezing my frozen hand that's resting on the edge of the hospital bed. "Josh and the boys are here." She whispers.
The recent statement circles round my head, before I process it and slowly open my eyes. The first thing I see is Kingsland Road, my favourite band of all time, standing over me, with my best friend clutching my hand beside me.
"Wha- what are they doing here?" I ask, as I sit up slowly and carefully.
"We asked them to come, because, you know-" She starts to cry. Thompson starts to interrupt her, so she doesn't break down into tears. He rushes over her and hugs her, before turning to face me.
"Hi, I'm Thompson." He smiles, stepping forward to greet me. He hugs me and I force my small, broken frail body to hug back.
"And I guess you know who these guys are." He smiles, as he turns his head to face the other boys, as they step forward.
Jay, Matt and Connor all hug me, but Josh hides behind the boys bodies, staring into deep space.
"Josh." Thompson says quietly, trying to get his fellow band mates attention. Josh doesn't reply and Thompson calls him again. No reply. Pretty soon
Thompson shouts his name, suddenly getting a reply after all.
"Huh, yeah?" Josh asks, receiving raised eyebrows from Thompson. Josh stares at him and then looks at me, his eyes widening as he acknowledges my existence.
"Oh, right! Sorry, um, uh, uh, hi." Josh stutters quietly, also shaking his head as he makes his way over from the back and joins the rest of the boys.
"Hello." I smile sweetly, my cheeks blushing from shock and excitement.
An awkward silence arises and Matt starts to talk to break it.
"Thanks for supporting us darling." He smiles, showing off his perfect snow white teeth.
"Thanks for giving me hope every day." I smile, truly meaning it.
"Well your a strong girl, you're gonna make it, I know you will." Connor says, as he pulls a chair from Nadine's side and sits down next to her. She lets go of my hand and he smiles at her softly, before he places his hand in mine.
I sigh, smiling at his reassuring words even though I know they aren't true, and turn my head to face Josh, who is looking down at his phone, his head hanging low.
"What's up with Josh?" I ask sadly and quietly, as I turn back to Connors sympathetic face.
"I don't know." He sighs. "I guess he must be tired, He's not normally like this, I swear. I'm really sorry he chose today to be like this." He mutters.
"Its fine." I smile. He was going to say something else, but he couldn't when a nurse walked over to my bed, with a tray full of equipment.
"I'm afraid could I all ask you to leave for a minute or two? I just need to give Amy her injections." The nurse smiles, as she picks up a clean syringe and a test tube of white bubbly liquid.
Connor lets go of my hand and they all smile at me one more time. Nadine, Connor, Jay, Matt and Thompson all start to get up and exit the room, but Josh stays froze in the corner.
"Sir?" The nurse asks, grabbing Josh's attention. He looks up absent mindedly and quickly, as stares at the objects in her hand.
"Can't I stay? I'd really like to be here for her." He asks, carrying on staring at the objects.
"Its up to Amy, Amy?" The nurse tells him, as she turns to face me. I node and look at Josh, confused.
Why has he not bothered with me until now?
