'Too the moon and back.' She mouths to me before she gets driven into the labour room.
I was allowed to go in, but she didn't want me to. She didn't want me to see her like this.
I hear her scream and I've had enough.
I get up off the hard blue hospital chairs, the boys and Nadine that are sat next to me looking up at me in confusion.
'I'm going to help her.' I huff, walking towards the wooden door. I push it open and see Amy, surrounded by nurses. They turn to look at me and Maura moves out the way. I shut the door behind me and squeeze past her to the left side of Amy, taking Amy's sweaty palm into my hand as I sit down on the soft chair next to the bed. She squeezes my hand tightly, so tight it's like the blood circulation might cut off, but I just smile back.
"It'll all be okay." I whisper to her. She smiles before clamping her eyes shut, even though we get a baby out of it, it still kills me to see her like this.
" I love you Josh. So so much. Tell the boys I love them as well, and, look after Jasmine. She'll need her dad. I love you so much Josh." She whispers back, tears rolling down her face.
"What'd you mean?" I ask, my heart pumping.
Why is she saying this?
"I-I'm gonna die." She whispers. She squeezes my hand tightly, and a tear rolls down my face.
"No Amy, you're not. I love you. Too the moon and back. It'll all be okay."
"I lo you Josh, so much. To the moon and ba-"
She screams again, and for some reason, a few seconds later I'm rushed out, the door shut in my face. The boys and Nadine look up at me expectantly, and I shrug.
" I don't know." I say. I don't sit down but instead pace up and down the hallway, letting my worries and worst case scenarios invade my thoughts.
A few minutes later a baby's loud cry escapes the room, and a nurse rushes out, not handing me the baby.
"Excuse me?" I ask, the nurse turning around. It's the same one that pushed me out the room a couple of minutes ago.
"What's the matter?" She asks, my baby still crying in the nurses arms.
"Where are you taking her?" I ask, directing my head towards the little girl.
"To clean her up, she'll be two minutes." The nurse says before rushing down the hallway.
Just then a tall coloured woman; another nurse; with short brown hair runs into the young nurse. The nurse points towards the room Amy's in, and the woman thanks the nurse before running over to Amy's door. She's about to open it, when she turns round.
"Are you waiting the girl in here?" She asks us. I nod, and she bites her lip.
"Is she okay?" I ask, and a flash of worry crosses her face.
"There's been- there's been some complications." She tells us, before walking into the room and shutting the door behind her.
I turn back to the boys and Nadine; their faces are dropped, and Nadine has tears in her eyes, Jay shaking.
"What does that mean?" I ask them. They all give each other worried looks, before Thompson speaks up.
"It means that, something went wrong. She could die Josh." Thompson says to me, sounding like he's about to cry.
"No, she'll be fine, she has to be! She always is! She has to live! You're lying!" I shout to all of them. Nadine stands up running her fingers through her long blonde hair before walking over to my shaking body.
"Josh." She said angrily. "How could you think that? We wouldn't lie Josh she is DYING! And that's not something we'd lie about, we love her as much as you so shut up!" She shouts at me, tears running down her face.
"You're not the only one who's hurting! She might be your girlfriend but she's my best friend, she's like the boys sisters! So just shut up!" She screams, before walking back over to the seat next to Connor and sitting down. She places her head in her hands, wiping away tears as Connor rubs her back softly.
"I'm sorry." I mutter, but it's still silent.
It's silent between the six of us; none of us knowing what to say, yet right now all I want to do is cry. Nearly all of us are in tears and it only occurs to me now how much I love Amy. How my life's improved since she's been here.
We hear a faint beeping, and soon three nurses walk out, Maura not being one of them.
"Is she okay?" I ask. The nurses all look at each other with pain in there eyes, and a small Indian one speaks up.
"She had some complications, we couldn't-"
"Josh." Maura says, before turning to the girls. "Thank you girls." They nod before walking off.
"Josh, sit down, please." Maura begs. I sigh and take a seat down next to Connor.
"Josh, boys, Nadine I'm so sorry." Maura says tears also in her eyes. "She- she didn't make it. She's gone." Maura cries.
And then my world crashes down.
