Chapter 12 | Cake

“No!” I shouted, grabbing the egg away from him. “You are doing it all wrong.”

“That’s the only way to break that thing.” He said and I shook my head, giving him a glare to which he shrugged his shoulders.

“No. You can’t just smash the egg on the table and slide it into the bowl. That’s disgusting.” I said and showed him the method to properly break the egg. Once it broke, I smiled at him, feeling proud. “See?” Chip smiled at me proudly and I curtsied, drowning in the pride.

“Whatever.” He replied grumpily and I laughed at his jealousy.

“I’m sure you can do it too.” I said, rubbing his back, secretly applying flour on it without him knowing. “Practice makes a man perfect Jacky.”

“Stop calling me that,” He said, grabbing an egg and tried to break it by cracking it slowly on the table. It didn’t crack and he tried it again and again and again. I could see his patience wearing thin and I tried to stifle a laugh. But, the laughter went away in an instant when he smashed the egg on the table and the yolk spread everywhere, falling on my face, messing up my hair. Chip looked up, his eyes filled with amusement as he was covered in yolk.

I looked around the kitchen, flabbergasted when I realised how messy the kitchen was. We were trying to prepare a cake because I wanted one. You know, sometimes, you have this sudden urge to just eat a particular thing. Yeah, I had that urge and once we found a cook book in the library, we were in the kitchen, trying to prepare a cake but it had been two hours already and we were still in the first step. To break a dozen eggs.

Chip was with us too, enjoying all our silly mistakes. Cogsworth wanted to bake us a cake but we didn’t let him because we wanted to do it all by ourselves. Cogsworth was reluctant to leave the kitchen to us, and I later realised that he loves his kitchen and anybody who messes it would have to face his wrath. Jack told me that he once messed up the kitchen when he was young and had to clean the kitchen for a week. It surprised me because just the other day Cogsworth was cowering in fear away from his master. But, it seemed like the bond between them all was much deeper than what I thought. They were like a family and a playful smile danced on my face at the thought of an young Jack getting scolded by Cogsworth.

“You splashed egg on me you as-idiot!” I yelled, careful not to use badwords in front of Chip and Jack laughed, pointing at my hair and I let out a groan. Grabbing a handful of floor, I threw it on his face and his laughter died down. This time, it was my turn to laugh and I clutched my stomach, laughing at his floor-filled face and he growled, before grabbing the floor and pulled me, holding my wrist.

“Take that!” He yelled, rubbing floor on my face as I screamed, pulling away from him as I grabbed onto the carton of eggs. Grabbing Chip in my hand who was squealing in excitement, I ducked and hid myself behind the counter in a swift roll.

Man, I should be a spy.

“Game on!” Chip shouted and I ‘shush’-ed him. He immediately quitened down and I could see Jack hiding himself behind the counter as well.

“Fire!” I charged, throwing eggs after eggs and I could hear Jack’s groans from behind the counter as I laughed evilly. But, it died down quickly when I was out of eggs.

“We have ran out of ammunition! I repeat!” I shouted, to which Chip squealed, taking it really seriously as he gave me a worried face as if our lives were at stake. “We have ran out of ammunition!”

“What do we do?” Chip said, looking really worried and I almost wanted to crush him and hug him for his cuteness.

Suddenly flying tomatoes and flour attacked us and both of us squealed as I hid Chip from the attack, holding him close towards me. “Abort mission! Abort mission!” I shouted, carrying Chip in my hands as we ran around the kitchen, trying to get away from the flying tomatoes.

An evil laughter followed behind and Chip screamed, as we ran, not looking behind when suddenly a pair of muscular arms cirlced around my waist pulling me backwards. But, due to my luck, my feet got tangled in the carpet, and I lost balance as I fell backward, with his falling too, clutching Chip tightly in my hands as we all fell on the floor in a messy heap. I groaned as I hit the back of my head on his chest and we laid there. Panting from all the running before Chip squealed and jumped in my hands.

“Again! Again!—”

“WHAT DID YOU DO TO THE KITCHEN?”

The three of us stopped laughing as we all turned to stare at Cogsworth, on top of the counter, looking at his precious kitchen which was now filled with flour and egg yolk. Jack immediately got up, pointing his finger at me, his eyes wide with fear and I almost would have laughed at his expression if Cogsworth wasn’t here, breathing fire. “She started it.”

“That’s a lie.” I stood up, placing Chip in the counter, as I glared at Jack. “He is lying Cogsworth.”

“I don’t care. I want this kitchen cleaned when I come back in five minutes.” Cogsworth said, and walked away, careful not to touch any of the mess.

“That was weird.” Jack said. “I thought he would have given some heavy punishment.”

“He likes me. So, he didn’t give that much of a punishment.” I said, tossing a towel towards Jack and started mopping the floor. Jack rolled his eyes before winking at Chip who giggled and started wiping the table.
