Chapter 4 | Shattered
“The master is not as bad as it seems.” Mrs. Potts said and I blinked away the tears while I wrapped the wet towel around my swollen ankle.
I bit my lip from groaning at the pain both physically and mentally. “Nothing can convince me. Did you listen to what he said?”
“Yes, I did.” Mrs. Potts said and she seemed worried. Chip was silently sleeping in a corner and I smiled at him.
“I have a family, Mrs. Potts.” I said, pressing the warm wet towel on my ankle hard and controlled a sob that was trying to get out of my throat. It has been an hour since the encounter with that asshole and I’m stuck in this room with Mrs. Potts and Chip. Mrs. Potts has been trying to convince me that he is not a bad man but I can’t be convinced after what happened. I didn’t see his face. I could only see the outline of his face because it was so dark.
Suddenly, something popped up in my mind and my eyes lit up as hope filled me. “My phone.” I muttered. I looked around and on my bed-side table, rested my phone and I felt relief fill me as I grabbed the phone tightly in my hand. I fiddled with buttons and I could feel Mrs. Potts looking at me strangely. My phone was working and I couldn’t be more happier. The background wallpaper of my phone consisted of me and my sister, in the beach, smiling happily at the camera. It was my sister’s birthday and we were having so much fun. I smiled as I reminisced the happy memory.
Just as I opened the contacts, a notification popped and I gasped, feeling my heart sink.
‘Battery Low. 1%’
“No. No. No. No.” I muttered under my breath as fear gripped my heart. I quickly went to my call log and just as I was about to swipe my sister’s name, the phone went dead. My hope-filled heart shattered into pieces and tears brimmed my eyes, I threw the phone away, not caring if it broke into a million pieces.
Suddenly, the door creeped open and I looked up, my heart beat racing as I thought it might be him. But, then my eyes widened when I met a walking clock, and a candle following behind it.
“Food is served!” The clock yelled before it looked at me.
Now, a talking clock and a candle.
“Introduce yourself Cogsworth! Manners!” Mrs. Potts sounded utterly enraged and I stifled a giggled. Smiling at the clock, the clock looked bored and looked at me.
“I’m Cogsworth, the head butler and this is Lumiére, my assistant.” The Clock, Cogsworth said and I smiled sweetly at them.
“I’m Harley, a trapped girl.” I added sadly and Lumière brightened up.
“It’s you who talked back to the master!” Lumière shouted excitedly. “I must say, you were really good. I have never seen anyone do that before. They always run away.”
“Thank you.” I bowed, blushing a little at the compliment, and smiling at my playfulness. Mrs. Potts smiled.
“The Master wants you down for dinner.” Cogsworth said.
That’s when my smile turned upside down. Is the Master crazy? Does he really think I’m that stupid to have dinner with him? After everything he had said and done, does he really think I will be civilized with him?
“Who does he think he is?” I asked angrily.
“Uh… the master?” Lumière said, it seemed like he really meant the answer and he had tried hard to think of a good answer.
“I’m not going to dinner with him.” I said, folding my arms across my chest. “He is rude and ill-mannered.”
“He can be kind to—”
“Please Mrs. Potts, I can’t be convinced.” I said, and all of a sudden, tears started streaming down my face as I felt the stress of all my problems pressing down on me.
“Please.” I whispered weakly and for a second, the indifferent expression on Cogsworth’s face softened, and he excused himself as he walked away, with Lumière following closely behind him. Lumière seemed really concerned but he turned away and went nonetheless.
“You don’t have to go to dinner with him.” Mrs. Potts assured me. “We can tell him that you can’t walk. Take rest.”
She looked at my swollen ankle and I nodded, trying to be strong and hopped out of bed, sliding the covers away from me and walked near the window. Opening the curtains, I looked at the view of the forest, it seemed endless and I rested my head on the wall, as silent sobs left my mouth.
I’m sorry Nana. I should have listened to you. And, now I’m stuck here. I am not sure whether I can see you anymore.
Suddenly, a loud bang echoed around the castle walls and I jumped, flinching at the loud sound. Looks like Cogsworth opened the news to his master about me not coming to dinner with him.
Well, deal with it asshole, you don’t own me.
With a smug grin, I tried to listen close to what was going on and suddenly, things and glasses smashing the ground and being broken to pieces could be heard and my senses became alert. Loud growls of rage and yells of fury could be heard and I stiffened. Then, a deathly silence followed. For a moment, I was scared that he would barge in here and demand me to go to dinner with him.
I looked at Mrs. Potts who seemed really shaken up and scared as she went near the sleeping tea-cup protectively.
It was silence for a while and we remained that way, listening for anyother signs of him but nothing came. It was only after five minutes that I decided to break the silence.
“My ankle is a lot better now.” I said, trying to lift the tense atmosphere and Mrs. Potts smiled widely as I took off the towel, looking at my swollen ankle. I can walk properly now but there is still a tiny bit of pain in there.
Now, all I need to do, is plot a plan to escape.
