Chapter 22 | Black

It has been a week since I have arrived home. I haven’t smiled yet. My thoughts are filled with the magical nights and days I had spent in the castle. I should stop behaving this way, I was pulling everyone’s mood down together with me.

The police had stopped their investigation after I had refused to talk with them. I didn’t want to let everyone know about the adventure. It was my secret adventure that only belonged to my mind and heart.

Just then, the door opened, and my sister Lena came in, carrying a plate of pasta. Pasta for breakfast? Why not.

She came in, locked the door safely and sat down beside me.

Looking at her, I realised how much my family appreciated my privacy and gave me time to heal. They are such wonderful people.

“I need to tell you something.” I said, before I could stop myself or before I could change my mind. The atmosphere went immediately tense as she widened her eyes in surprise before she sat down beside me. Her eyes were filled with eager and I smiled, feeling guilty that I never told her.

“Ok.” She said and looked at me, giving me a smile.

With that, I told her everything. I told her what happened in the beginning. How we fought with each other. I told her about the magical creatures and about Chip. I was smiling without realising it and she smiled, happy to see me smile again. I told her about the red rose, the curse, the enchantress, the forbidden love and him. I told her about everything.

It was quite a few moments as the story sank in her mind.

“So you are now in love with the beast?”

“Kinda.” I paused. “Yes.”

“Aren’t you going to go back?” She asked, genuinely concern.

“Do you think our family will let me go?” I asked and she understood what I meant. She nodded before turning away as and looked at the window.

“Do you think I can see the castle from here?” She asked.

“Tried.” I said. “Can’t.”

“Fairies do exist? Wow.” She breathed out and I laughed.

“Don’t you miss them?” She asked, and I pursed my lips.

“I do. A lot.” I said and she bit her lips, thinking hard before she sighed.

“Eat your pasta.” She said. “We will think of a way to get you there.”

“Really?” I asked, surprised that she was trying to help me once again.

“Really.”

Immediately, I ran towards her and hugged the living daylights out of her. She laughed, patting my back.

“You are the best sister ever!” I shouted hugging her tightly before letting her go out of my release. She smiled and walked away. I looked at the pasta, suddenly feeling energetic and eager to start the day.

I was going to meet my puddin’ !

Puddin’ ?

Where did that come from?

Oh well.

I grabbed the plate of pasta in my hand and started eating it hungrily. Just then, something shiny caught my eyes and it fell on the small pocket mirror on the dressing table. It was reflecting under the sunlight and I walked over to it, grabbing the pocket mirror in my hands.

It was then a memory flashed through my mind.

“This mirror is for you. You can have it. You will need it.” The enchantress said and reduced the size of the mirror to a pocket sized one before slapping the horse’s legs, making me go away.

I looked at the mirror.

Can I see Jack through this?

Just as I thought of this, a cloudy smole filled the reflection and suddenly the smoke turned black, and then dark. There was a small spot of red light in the middle, and it shined brightly. It was zooming in, until the red rose came into view. It was blood red, just like I had remembered but the odd thing about it was that it only had two petals left.

Behind the red rose, Jack was sitting on a window seat, playing with a fallen rose petal as he looked at the window.

He is searching for me.

There are only two petals left in the flower.

The end is coming soon.

No. No.

It was too much to take in.

Suddenly, it was too hard to breathe and the room around me started fading to blackness. He can’t die. No. I needed him. He was too important. I would go crazy without him. My mind spinned and the mirror dropped from my hand, falling on the floor. The sound was way too distant, and before I could steady myself by holding the cupboard, my knees buckled and my body gave in to the darkness.

My body hit the cold floor and my mind faded to darkness.
