Chapter 6 | Saved
I had been met with complete silence when I had voiced my question. I realised I had crossed a line without even realising it and it was a tense for a few moments until I had embarrasingly burped out loud. That diffused the tension and the topic was forgotten and throwed into the dustbin.
But, that doesn’t mean I never stopped thinking about it.
It was constantly on my mind and my curiousity just kept on rising. The mystery west wing, the prince, the master, the enchanted objects, the portraits, everything and I just had to know. So, pretending that I was sleepy and really tired, I had escaped out of the kitchen, letting them have their own fun.
I am going inside the west wing.
And for the first time since I have stepped foot in the castle, I felt the rebellious side of me take over my body and I couldn’t help but grin at this little adventure I am having. I have always craved adventures and now I am having my own.
I am one lucky girl.
The optimism in me shined brightly. With a cheeky grin on my face, I walked along the paths, getting myself familiarised with the pathways, twists and turns of the castle. The portraits were hanging on the beige walls and when I reached the familiar staircase and the two paths, I knew I was closer to the west wing. With a swift turn, I was turning around and I met that door.
The same mysterious door.
Quickly looking behind for anyone, I slowly walked over to the door. Questions filled my mind and curiousity was practically eating me alive. Reaching the shiny golden door handle, I pulled on it and the door swung open, with a heavy creak like that of an horror movie. Moving quickly, I entered inside and found myself in a dusty old store room. It was filled with broken chairs, tables and spiderwebs were everywhere. It seemed like it has been a long time since anyone had entered the door.
I analysed the place, still standing there when suddenly something bright red caught my eyes. I stopped moving and eyes fixated itself on the sparkling red. A sweet smell reached my nose. From its fragrance, I could tell it’s the scent of a flower. It made me hold my breath, wanting the smell to forever remain in my system. The scent grew stronger as if I was hypnotised, I started moving towards it.
Moving closer and closer, I gasped as my eyes met a rose, enclosed in a glass. It was blood-red and beautiful. It beamed with softness and it was alluring me in. I felt calm at its presence. It was a single rose and my eyes widened with intrigue when I realised that it was floating, with a thin green stalk. It had thorns adorning it, showing that it is both dangerous and beautiful. The flower was so red that for a second, I thought it was painted with dark blood.
The shimmering moon-light from the window behind it gently tickled the petals, the red rose stretched as if reacting to it and I felt myself leaning closer to the delicate flower. The moon light was only enhancing its beauty and unconsciously my fingers itched to touch its soft petals. My hand towards the glass, and I slowly placed my fingers on them, careful not to disturb the floor. I tapped the glass with my finger and an instant later, a petal from the rose fell onto the ground, so delicately that it seemed as if it was flying.
My heart broke slightly at the thought of the flower withering but a loud growl came from behind me and I turned around immediately, backing away towards the flower when my eyes met an hideous man. He had pale skin, and he was wearing a purple coat over himself. He had green hair and there were tattoos and drawings poking around from underneath the coat. My heart rate increased when I met his eyes. They are filled with a storm of rage, the waves of icy blue crashing and moving wildly in them. His lips were red, and his chest was heaving up and down, trying to control his fury.
“Haven’t they told you not to enter?”
“They d-did. B-but, I—uh,” I had been caught red-handed and I didn’t know how to handle the situation.
“Its rude to not obey rules!” He shouted and I flinched, tears brimming my eyes as fear squeezed my heart.
“I’m s-sorry. I won’t do—Ah! Please! Stop!” He had grabbed my wrist and he was dragging me away. I had a strong sense that he was going to kill me and tears streamed down my face. He held onto my wrist so tightly. I could feel his hand trembling with anger.
Why is the flower so important?
What’s its purpose?
A loud clap of thunder echoed around the castle followed by flashes of lightning, almost copying his emotions and I gulped when we neared the front door. He dragged me out and pushed me out into the forest, and I couldn’t even let out a sigh of relief. Because I don’t think I can ever stop thinking about this mysterious place and its secrets even if I found my way back home.
“Never return!” He shouted angrily, his eyes stormy, his jaw rigid and hard as he glared at me and I started crying, hugging myself as I started my way back home. Half of me felt happy and the other half was just terribly confused.
I started walking, walking fast, away from the castle and rain started pouring heavily.
Why does it always have to rain whenever I enter the forest?
My mind was running with thoughts that I didn’t care about the cold water drenching me, or the chilly wind that tickled my sensitive skin or the wolves that were howling behind me.
It took me a few seconds to realise that I was slowly being surrounded by wolves and I stiffened, trying to think of an escape route but couldn’t find any. I couldn’t concentrate on anything as the wolves howled, stalking closer towards me, forming a circle.
This is it.
This is the end of me.
I’m going to di—
A loud growl echoed from the forest and I gasped as the beast came into view, the man who had just shooed me out of the castle was now shooing the wolves away, fighting them away and I screamed in horror as one of them scratched his chest badly, another biting his leg. My eyes widened and it was all happening too fast, and my legs felt like they were stuck to the ground.
It was merely a few seconds and the wolves were running away, two of them dead, lying on the floor. He turned around to look at me and I gasped out loud at the blood gushing from his chest. My eyes met his, but he seemed weak. In the next second, his eye-lids closed and he was down, lying flat on the ground. I ran towards him without a second thought.
He saved my life.
