One week later
*Aria's POV*

"Ezra, can you get Ian please? I need to get Lucy dressed and fed." I call from the master bedroom. Ian's shrill cries echo through the room.

"I'm on it!" Ezra calls, racing up the stairs and into the nursery. Dianne is coming over for dinner tonight to see the twins for the very first time, and its an understatement to say that I'm nervous. At this point, I'm running on two solid hours of sleep, no shower, and one meal for today. The twins kept Ezra and I up all night long. Lucy needed to be breast fed six times last night, and Ian is struggling with a mild case of acid reflux.

Ezra appears in the doorway bouncing Ian and patting his back gently. Ian's sobs have turned to hiccups as he lays contently against Ezra's shoulder.

"Thanks babe, you've been a big help." I say hugging Ezra the minute he walks over.

"No problem." He says kissing the top of my head. I finish dressing Lucy in a white onesie dotted with multi colored flowers, a gift from Emily. I tie a hot pink headband around her soft fuzzy head, and kiss her gently on the cheek before handing her off to Ezra.

"Baby switch!" I announce, holding my arms to Ezra.

"Come here buddy!" I say in my sweetest little baby voice. "Come to mama!"

I lay Ian on the bed, and strip his clothes from his little body. I give him a quick diper change, and dress him in a navy and white striped sleeper, from Hanna and Caleb.

"There, is that better?" I ask, even though I know he can't answer. I kiss him on his head and hand him back to Ezra.

"Alright little ones, it's feeding time." I announce, sitting on the bed and preparing to feed them.

"Come on you two, it's dinner time! Welcome to the all you can drink breast milk buffet!" Ezra says, laying the twins across my lap. I chuckle and shake my head.

"Daddy is so silly, isn't he guys?" I say.

One hour later

"Alright, everything looks good, the table is set, dinner is in the oven, we've both had a shower, the twins are sleeping, and the house is clean. My mother should be here any minute." Ezra announces, glancing at his watch.

"Great, any minute until all hell breaks loose." I say bitterly. Ezra comes over to me and places both of his hands on my shoulders.

"Aria, I know you're not a huge fan of my mom, and I know you and her don't exactly get along, but try to stay positive about this okay? If you can't do it for me, at least do it for the twins. I know my mom can be difficult at times, but at least give her a chance. Who knows, maybe grandma Dianne will surprise you." Ezra says looking me in the eye. I try to smile.

"You're right." I say nodding in agreement. Ezra's right, maybe she'll act differently with the twins around.

Just then the doorbell rings, and Ezra goes to greet Dianne at the door.

"Hey mom." Ezra says, leaning forward to give Dianne a hug. Dianne hugs back.

"How's my favorite son?" She asks. Then she smiles at me.

"Hello Aria." she says nodding towards me. "How are you doing?"

"I'm doing fine, thank you. The twins have definitely been keeping us on our toes, but we're taking it one day at a time." I say, smiling as genuinely as possible.

"That's nice." Dianne says, showing zero interest. My heart sinks.

"So, where are my grandchildren? I'm just dying to meet them!" Dianne exclaims, walking into the entry way.

"They fell asleep in their swings in the living room." Ezra says.

"It's a beautiful place you've got here." Dianne comments, examining each piece of furniture closely.

"Thank you." Ezra and I reply in unison. We walk into the living room where Ian and Lucy are rocking slowly in their swings.

"They are beautiful babies!" Dianne says gushing over the snoring newborns. "They are the cutest tiniest things I've ever seen!" she says, smiling bigger than I've ever seen her smile before.

"Thank you." I say smiling proudly.

"Can I hold them?" Dianne asks hopefully. Ezra shakes his head.

"Well, dinner's almost ready, and it would be best if we let them sleep so we can actually enjoy dinner without getting up every two seconds. Do you think you could wait until after dinner to hold them?" Ezra asks. Dianne looks disappointed, but nods reluctantly.

"Let's eat." she says. "I don't know how long I can go without holding my grandbabies!" We all head into the kitchen, where aromas of freshly baked ziti mixed with garlic bread and Caesar salad floats through the air.

"Mmm, it smells wonderful!" Dianne announces, taking a seat at the kitchen table.

"It tastes better than it smells, trust me." I say. "Ezra is an amazing cook!"

Dianne laughs. "Well, it's nice to know he's good for something." she says. Ezra and I laugh nervously, although I can't tell if she's being serious or not.

All through out dinner, Dianne bombards us with questions about my pregnancy, my labor and delivery, and the twins. Ezra and I answer every one genuinely. Dianne seems pleased, but I can't be sure because it's nearly impossible to read her. After dinner Dianne offers to help me with the dishes, which I find very thoughtful. Dianne tries to make small talk between us as we wash and dry the dishes repeatedly. Lucy starts to fuss from the living room, so Ezra excuses himself to go tend to her. He comes back a few minutes later, holding a happy baby girl. Her big blue eyes are wide open, and she's happily sucking on her binki.

"Oh my gosh, could she be any cuter?" Dianne asks, holding out her arms. "Come see Grandma Dianne!"

Ezra hands Lucy over to Dianne, who rocks her in her arms and stares at her in awe. I smile. Ezra was right about Dianne, she's going to be an amazing grandma to the twins!

Dianne stays for another three and a half hours, cuddling Ian and Lucy tightly the whole time, refusing to give them up. She even threatened to take them home with her, that is until we explained having to get up eight times a night for diper changes, breastfeedings, or two hour rocking sessions.

Later that night after Dianne had gone home, Ezra and I lay side by side in bed, our fingers intertwined. Ian is asleep on my chest, curled up in a tight little ball as he often likes to do, and Lucy is snoring quietly on Ezra's chest, sprawled out, as she often likes to do. Ezra and I stare at eachother in awe. I am so beyond exhausted from everything that's happened this last week. This past week has been the craziest most overwhelming week of my entire life, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Lucy and Ian are here now. I've watched them grow inside of me for the past nine months, waiting for the moment when I could hold them in my arms, and here they are. Happy, healthy, and the most beautiful human beings I have ever seen. I truly am the luckiest girl in the world.
