I opened my eyes and stretched. I tried to smile but then suddenly it turned into a frown. I just remembered. It's going to be my first day of High School.
Aeriel told me that High School in this planet is so hard. After all, this is where the teenagers go. And in America, teenagers there are not that quite disciplined. But Aeriel and Charisse told me how to fit in, so I know I'll be safe if I just trust my gut.
And it was trusting my gut that made me fall from Heaven.
Anyway, I jumped out of bed and took a shower and changed into the clothes Aeriel gave me. It's a knee-length pink skirt and a white top with a pink cardigan. Charisse told me I shouldn't be vain and I shouldn't give a care about what my clothes are but I just can't help but admire the colors we wear. Back at Heaven, we just wear a simple white dress. Not much color, only white. Here in Earth, there are green, pink, orange, yellow, blue and lot more.
I went downstairs and discovered Charisse and Aeriel eating breakfast. This, I also noticed. Back at Heaven, we don't eat. But when I disguise myself as a human, we need to eat three times a day because if we don't, we'll faint or be very sick.
Charisse looked up. "Good morning, Kate," she said. "Ready to go to school?"
"It feels like I'm going to a battle," I said as I took a seat across Aeriel.
Aeriel laughed. "Yeah, that's what I felt on my first time," she said. "So this is going to be our story. As all the people know back at school, Charisse owns this apartment then I just rented this. My family is back at Canada and we can't just tell you came out of nowhere. You came from Canada and you're my cousin. Besides, we look alike... well, a little bit."
"It was a big shock for them when they learned we're not related," Charisse said. "I mean, we look so white!"
I just smiled. It's not because I don't want to talk to them. It's because I'm so nervous about this school thing. What if the others would pick on me? I can't fight with humans. They'll just know I have super strength or something.
Of course, I don't have any powers. Guardian angels doesn't have. Only the angels who are sent down here in Earth does. They are the one who should save humanity. Guardian angels do good things to the humans. Those who aren't does good things for the humans.
After I ate, I went upstairs to brush my teeth. This I also learned from Aeriel. I kind of like brushing my teeth. The toothpaste's minty and it makes my mouth so refreshed. And then there was a knock from my door.
"Come on, Kate!" Aeriel called. "We're going to be late! You need to make a good impression as a new student!"
I washed my mouth and then made a grab on my bag. Aeriel gave this to me as a present yesterday. My first gift as a human. I feel so touched that I gave her a hug and a kiss at the cheek. I looked at my reflection at the mirror as I combed my hair. I never saw myself until I saw this mirror on the first day.
And everything they told me back at Heaven is true.
My eyes are color blue, just like the sea. My complexion is so white, just like Charisse and Aeriel. My hair is color brown and it parted just at the middle. Then I picked up a headband and put it on. Charisse gave this to me as a gift. My second gift.
And then I went downstairs to see Charisse and Aeriel waiting for me at the living room. "Is your wings tightly concealed?" Charisse asked.
I nodded. "I think so," I said and turned for them to look.
Aeriel nodded. "Good," she said. "Let's go."
We went outside the house and in Charisse's car. This is another device the human invented for transportation. Charisse went in the driver's seat, Aeriel in the passenger's seat and I on the back seat. Charisse started the engine and started to drive.
When we arrived at the school, Charisse bade us goodbye and started to walk to the Teacher's Lounge. Aeriel and I meanwhile walked to my new locker. She ordered a locker next to me so that she would guide me everywhere. Luckily, the principal found two vacant lockers next to each other.
"You open this with a key and put the things you don't need there," Aeriel said as she opened hers.
I opened mine and ran a finger on it. It was dirty. "Uh, should we clean it first?" I asked.
Aeriel checked her locker and realized it was dirty. "Let's," she said and handed me a tissue from her bag.
After cleaning our lockers, I put my bag and the things I don't need for classes there. Then a voice muttered at the back, "Oh you lucky girl!"
We turned and saw two girls looking at us. "Do you need something?" Aeriel asked.
"Your lockers are just above from Patrick Hall's locker!" one girl said. "Aren't you lucky?"
Aeriel smiled. It's not a friendly smile but not an evil one, too. It was a forced smile that says, I'm sorry girls, but we don't really care about Patrick Hall. "Yes, we know," she said.
"You better savor your moments in that locker!" the second girl said. "It's, like, a privelage to have your locker above Patrick Hall's. Anyway, we gotta go!"
As they left, I turned to Aeriel. "Who is this Patrick Hall?" I asked.
Did I imagine it or was it real that Aeriel actually blushed? "He's just a football player," she said. "He's handsome and there's a lot of girls who drop to their knees just so he could notice them. But he doesn't."
"Why not?" I asked. "Those two girls are pretty enough, if you ask me."
"Because he already have a girlfriend," Aeriel said. "She's Joanne Hernandez. She's the head cheerleader and everyone says she doesn't want anyone touching her boyfriend. She's super-jealous but whenever she and Patrick stays together, he seems bored and he doesn't talk much. And whenever Joanne turn her back on him, Patrick talks to other girls and sometimes even kissing them. Who knows if he sleeps with them?"
I gulped. This teenager stuff is getting my head ache. "I see," I said. "Do you like him?"
"No," Aeriel said and looked away.
I just shrugged and followed Aeriel on our first class. Charisse convinced the principal that Aeriel and I should have same classes so that she would guide me. And who could say no to Charisse? The principal agreed and now I have my classes same as Aeriel.
We went to Biology and the teacher, Ms. King is already there. "Oh, you must be Kate Roberts?" she asked.
I nodded. "Yes, ma'am," I said.
"Ms. King, she's my cousin," Aeriel said. "And she's a new student. Can we be Biology partners? So that I'll help her if she doesn't know what to do."
"No need for that, Ms. Young," Ms. King said dismissively. "We also have a new student. He changed his Algebra class and Biology class because of some certain reasons."
"Oh," Aeriel said. But she refuses to let the subject drop. "He could have my Biology partner. I just need to have my cousin a good partner. She's a new student."
"Yes, I've heard," Ms. King said sharply. "But she had Biology on her old school, hadn't she?" She turned to me and I just nodded. "That's settled then. You're partner will be Patrick Hall."
When she said that name, all the students inside the classroom snapped their heads to Ms. King. Aeriel's jaw dropped and stared at me. The others did, too. And I know why.
My Biology partner is Patrick Hall, the most popular guy in this school.
The song of this chapter is What Makes You Beautiful by: One Direction! :) Haha, yes, I know, it doesn't click with the characters. xD But Kate is really beautiful! :)
