Um, there’s a little bit confusion in this chapter. So please just keep up and ask if you don’t really get it. :)
There was suddenly a hand on my shoulder, shaking me softly. My eyes fluttered open and I saw Patrick, smiling down at me. “You better wake up. Aeriel and the others are here.”
I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and stretched, standing up. “How long was I asleep?”
“Just an hour and a half,” he responded. “You look so cute sleeping.”
I blushed. “Everybody does.”
Patrick raised his eyebrow. “You sure? I’m not sure BJ is cute when he sleeps.”
My eyes widened. After all of these commotions, I forgot about BJ and his feelings for me. For some reason, he loved me because I was there when I consoled him. And… that’s for only one night. But, still… he has feelings for me—true feelings and not because I’m pretty or something.
Patrick noticed my reaction and put a hand on my cheek. “Is something wrong? Tell me.”
“It’s… BJ. I think he loves me.”
He laughed. “BJ might think that you’re a pretty girl but he doesn’t love you. He just thinks you’re pretty and hot, you know. Nothing to worry about.”
I shook my head. “No, no, that’s not what I meant. He saw me when we’re still young.”
Patrick’s brows stitched up together in confusion. “I don’t get it.”
Before I could explain, Bella and the others came along. Aeriel was about to open her mouth to tell us something but she noticed my serious expression and Patrick’s confusion. She closed her mouth. “You’re not yet done?” she timidly asked.
“Not yet,” I admitted. “I’m explaining a thing or two to him.”
“Oh,” Aeriel said. “Should we go again?”
“Uh, no. Just stay here but if you’re kind enough not to… um, eavesdrop.”
Bella raised an eyebrow. “You don’t trust us?”
“No it’s not. It’s just… it feels awkward.”
Aeriel sighed. “Let’s give some space,” she told the others and quickly backed off.
When we were completely alone again, I looked up at Patrick. “I came down here on Earth when we were still children,” I said. “I came when I’m just a six-year-old.”
Patrick put a hand on his head. “I—I still don’t get it,” he stammered. “After you told me about my daughter’s names… you said something that you’re a young angel. That you’re seventeen and Aeriel is ninety-nine and Charisse is forty-eight. And I thought angels are immortals.”
“Yeah, we are. And we age twice faster than humans. If I’m an angel back at Heaven, I’m supposed to be a thirty-four-year-old woman. But when I go here, I’m seventeen.”
“I still don’t get it. Why does Aeriel looks like a seventeen-year-old person? If she’s actually ninety-nine years old in human years, she would be forty-nine years old or something.”
