“Are you okay, Kate?” Patrick asked as I landed on the hiding place. He hopped out of my arms and I wasn’t surprised that he could walk. Too bad he was limping. Then he turned to me, put both of his hands on my cheeks and moved them upwards so we could be face-to-face. “Kate?”
I smiled, just looking at his gorgeous grey eyes made me relax and be safe. “I’m fine. I was just too overwhelmed. It was the first time I flew freely.”
He nodded, but he didn’t let go of me. “Let’s savor our last moments, shall we?”
I nodded, smiling faintly. His hands left my face and his right hand grabbed mine and sat down on his make-shift couch. I sighed contentedly as I put my head on his shoulder and his arm around me. “I would give anything to be with you forever,” I said, tears forming in my eyes. “Too bad I don’t have a choice.”
“You do have a choice.”
“Yeah, well, I can’t just abandon Heaven for some person I just know for a month, even if it’s you. I’m really sorry, Patrick. I’m really sorry if it ends like this,” I apologized. Tears were streaming down my face now. “I know you understand but…”
He smiled as he wiped my tears. “I do understand, Kate. I accepted that we’re not really meant for each other. I know that. I’m strong enough to let you go.”
I sighed. “Thank you.”
“Anything for you.” He put his lips to mine briefly. “You’re the most beautiful person I have ever seen, Kate.”
I laughed uneasily. “Then again, I’m not a person. I’m an angel.”
Patrick grinned. “True. Well, in that case, you’re the most beautiful angel I have ever seen.”
I poked him playfully. “Then again, there are only four angels you have met—me, Aeriel, Charisse and Bella. You don’t know any angels.”
He shrugged. “I don’t really care. You’re the only angel for me, Kate. And you’re the most beautiful one there is.”
I smiled tenderly. “You’re the most handsome person I’ve ever seen, Patrick. And don’t argue—I have seen a lot of guys here on Earth.”
“I’m not going to argue,” he said teasingly, making me smile. “Um, Kate, when you told me about my future daughters names… Do you suppose you know the name of the girl destined to be with me forever?”
“Maybe. Maybe not.”
“Come on, Kate. If you know who she is or even her name, can’t you tell me?”
I shook my head. “No. Sorry, Patrick, but I can’t tell you. I don’t know her face. I just know her name.”
“First name or last name?”
“Both.”
Patrick sighed. “Fine. I won’t pester you.”
“Patrick, if I’m going to leave, everything will go back to normal before I even arrived. You were with Joanne when I arrive. What will you do?”
He shrugged. “Break up with her again or something. There’s no way I’m going to be with her again.”
“You’re going to Prom with another girl.”
