I walked down the streets with my hands in my pockets. I was now downtown and walking past neon lit signs. It is a real pain to walk through downtown to a grocery store.
I shivered as snow kept falling around the people who were walking down the streets. Even after what happened today, I'm happy. I will not put up with anymore of the bullying. This year, I'll fight back!
And... I spoke to soon.
I felt someone grab me from behind and pull me into the allyway right next to me. When I saw the persons face it was one of the boys at our school. It was... Graces ex.
"Griffen?! What.. what are you doing." I asked as he pinned me against the wall.
"I wanted him off her mind but not like this!" He yelled in my face. His eyes were full of rage
"I don't know what your talkin about!" I said quickly.
"Griffen!" His hands tightented around my wrists.
"Your hurting me!" I heard him sigh and let go of of me.
"Im sorry Kori." He said looking away and backing up. I rubbed my wrists to see hand prints on them.
Griffen sat down against a brick wall.
"Griffen... you have never been the agresive type. Is this about Grace?" I asked sitting next to him.
"Yeah... she's always talking about Caleb and how much she hates you. I never understood why she hated you, but I went along with it. Im sorry. I mean, your not annoying, bitchy, stealer..."
"Is that what she's been calling me?" I asked looking down and hugging my knees. He sighed.
"Yeah. Shes been complaining about you since the 5th grade. But... I don't think your bad at all. You did ask what was wrong with me even after I attacked you. Your caring."
He smiled at me. "Thanks. I really needed that." He laughed a little.
"No problem." I smiled at him and I helped him off the ground.
"Hey where are you going? I told my mother I would be home by 5 and I have nothing to do." He asked as we walked out of the allyway. I looked at him surprised.
"Im just going to the store to buy some stuff. So I guess you could come with me." I said as I started walking down the side walk. He then ran to catch up to me and we walked together.
We walked into the super market and I went to the freezer food area. I heard Griffen stop behind me.
"Hey Kori!" I turned around down to see an airhorn in my face. I stepped back a little.
"I'm gonna do it." He said smirking.
"Wait Grif-" I was interuppted by the loud blaring sound of the horn. We both laughed.
"Stop!" I said while laughing and looking around. He blared it again and laughed.
I grabbed stuff for the house and we reached the check out line. I held two bags in my hands as we walked down the streets. Griffen pulled out his phone.
"Well I have to go. Ill see ya at school Kori."
"Alright bye Griffen!" I waved as he walked in a diffrent direction.
I walked back to my street with the bags in my hands. I walked through the door and saw the living room was empty. I walked to the kitchen and put the food away. I could hear stumbling in the hall way.
"Where the hell have you been?" I heard my mother say grabbing the back of my neck.
"I was at the store! I told you I was going!" I could smell the sickening smell of alcohol in her breath."No you didn't!" She said letting go and pushing me against the counter.
"Yes I did!" I said. She glared at me and slapped me across my cheek. It hurt so much. "Dont you dare try to argue with me!" She said. I pushed her away and she grabbed my arm and pulled me back and slapped me again.
I pushed her again making her stumble backwards and I ran to the living room.
"Why are you like this!?" I yelled. I covered my eyes with my hands.
"Why do you hate me so much!?" I looked up to see that she was in front of me.
She grabbed me by my hair and slammed me into a wall. Her slaps felt like whips digging into my skin with each strike.
She then started to choke me.
I gasped for air and tried hitting her away but she wouldn't let up.
I heard a knock in the door and I screamed. "Come in!" I then felt another also on the cheek as Aunt Carrie walked in.
Mom let go of me and looked at her sister with anger. I sat against the wall looking at them as Aunt Carrie looked at me in horror.
"What the hell did you do to her!? She has bruises all over her face and neck!" She ran over to me and helped me up.
"Shes coming with me Valerie!" Aunt Carrie said as she walked me over to the door.
"Go ahead. Take her away. She doesn't have any meaning to me." Aunt Carrie stopped and something broke inside me.
Something distasteful was realeased in my body and consumed my heart.
"How can you say that about your only daughter Valerie? You should be ashamed of yourself." Aunt Carrie responded walking out the door. She got me in the car and got in herself.
I looked down with tears falling on my enclosed hands. We backed out of the driveway. We drove away from the house.
"Why don't you stay at my house?" Aunt Carrie said. She sounded like she was crying too.
I would expect her two after hearing her only sister say she doesn't care about her only daughter. But she is always okay with people hating her. I mean she runs a buisness. Shes used to it.
Me... I'm not. When your own mother, the person who gave you life, tells you that you mean nothing to them.... its just heart breaking.
I felt like I was in a hole a black, dark hole. I reached for my mothers hand to pull me out. To hug me. To tell me it was going to be alright. But she was never there at least she was until a month ago.
I could hear my aunts voice.
"Im so sorry Kori... I'm so sorry."
But her words were muffled under the sound of my tears falling into the black hole I was still in.
