Chapter 12

(Caleb POV)

I woke up to the sound of something falling over.

I sat up and saw Kori pushing things off the counter and banging her fist on it. I walked over to her. Worried if she had hurt herself.

"It's not fair!!" She yelled as I grabbed her hand. She looked at me with tears in her eyes.

"I know.. " I said looking at her. She looked at me. 

"Caleb... Promise me. You will always stay by my side right? You won't leave me?" She asked. I put my hand on the back of her head and pulled her into a hug.

"Of course I will. I promise you Kori. A Knight can't leave his Princess can he?" I said as she grabbed the back of my shirt tightly.

"Thank you." I heard her say. I ran my fingers through her brown hair. We stood there hugging each other. She trembling in my arms.

I hated me to see her like this.

I felt her fall asleep on my shoulder and I chuckled. I carried her over to the couch and laid her down gently. I covered her with a blanket. I heard a knock at the door and went to answer it. A tall man stood at the door step wearing a black suit.

"Hello, I'm Detective Williams. I was wondering if I could have a word with Kori." He said. I looked at him with a tired expression.

"I'm sorry but she's asleep right now. You can come in if you want." I said stepping to the decide. He thanked me and walked in.

"So, are you the boyfriend?" Agent Williams asked me. I wish.

"No. I'm her best friend." I said quietly. He sat down next to Kori on the couch and looked at her with sympathetic eyes.

"It must be horrible for her. Having a abusive mother as her only family." The agent said. I looked at him confused.

"She doesn't have any other family?" I asked. He shook his head. I sat down on the other side of Kori. She was stirring in her sleep. I brushed the hair out of her face.

"I will need to ask her questions when she wakes up. We believe that her aunt was killed by Valerie Denom. Her maiden name is Dickenson." He said.

"Who's that?" I asked.

"Well she's Kori's mother." He said. A chill was sent down my spine. Her mother... killer her aunt? I was to shocked to say anything.

I felt Kori's hand brush against my arm as she sat up and rubbed her eyes.

"Sorry, did we wake you?" The agent asked. She leaned her head on my shoulder

"Who's that?" She asked sleeply.

"This is Detective Williams." I said looking down at her. She sat up and looked at the agent wide eyed.

"We spoke on the phone." I said with a shaking voice. I was now fully awake and I can remember what happened.

"Yes, we did. I'm sorry for your loss." He said. I looked down and I felt a hand grab mine. Caleb wasn't looking at me but I could feel his fear.
