War Against Us (A Captain Rex x Reader Story)

A/N: My SAT is this weekend so I have been super busy!  Once my SAT is over, updates will definitely be more frequent! A lot of people have been asking if Hardcase will survive. Well, you're about to find out...enjoy!

Fives, Hardcase and Jesse each hopped into their ships and gave each other a nervous look. They were all questioning the plan, but they knew it was what they had to do as they lifted off into space.

Suddenly, your comlink went off, "(Y/N) come in! It's Oddball." You jumped a bit upon his words, the force sending shivers down your spine. 

"Yes?" you asked, worry in your voice.

"Three Umbaran fighters just entered space. I'm going to go take a closer look," he informed you. Before you could thank him, he gasped, "It's your men alright!"

Your whole body was now overcome with immense fear. Oddball said there was three fighters, but you only discussed the plan with Fives. What if Rex was up there? "Oddball," you finally spoke, "can you make an identification on any of them?" 

"I can't, I'm sorry. But I ordered everyone to not fire at them."

"Thank you Oddball, keep me in touch. Please protect them," you begged, turning off your comlink. You tried to get in contact with Rex again, but the communications were still jammed. Worry began to overtake your body again. The force was telling you something was wrong. You could feel Rex's suffering. What you didn't know was that it was about to get a whole lot worse. 

Rex sat in the corner of a control room in a hangar, playing with a small data pad, trying to crack more code. He knew in is head that he needed to focus on the code, but his heart kept making him focus on you, and when you'll return. His heart was suffering from the lack of communication, but his thoughts were quickly interrupted.

Krell burst through the door of the hangar, "CT-7567! I was just informed of launch of three Umbaran fighters. Care to explain this?"

Rex clenched his jaw in fear, "It..it was a reconnaissance mission. They should be back soon. I authorized it so your plan could be even more effective," Rex could barely get his words out in fear.

"You what?!" Krell growled, shoving Rex to the ground, "I want their report as soon as they get back. No exceptions!". Krell began to walk away as Rex got up, but he wasn't finished. Turning around, he used the force to push Rex over, "How dare a test tube creature think he has more authority over me!". 

As Krell walked away, his head held high, Rex remained on the floor. His whole body began to tense up as Krell left the hangar completely. As he slowly got up, his blood began to boil. But second later, his anger turned into fear and disappointment.  He knew what he had to do; Krell had to go. He tried to call you on his comlink, but the signal was still jammed. Regardless, he still talked, "Please come back (Y/N). I miss you, I need you. We need you. If you don't come back soon..," he paused for a moment, "you may never see me again." 

On the Transport to Umbara

"(Y/N), We've got a problem," Oddball alerted you, "Your men have entered the Separatist supply ship."

"They what?!" you gasped, "Oddball, follow them!"

"I will, but why?" he asked, heading for the ship.

"They are going to blow up the ship from the main reactor, but they aren't pilots! I trust you will keep them safe," you tell him, worrying he may back out of it.

"You're crazy, but I'll do it," Oddball laughed.

"Thank you, Oddball. May the force be with you," you smiled to your self, looking out the window of the transport. 

Across the galaxy, Oddball was closely following Fives, Jesse and Hardcase, but not trying to make it too obvious that he was. Upon your request, he informed the Jedi Cruisers and other Republic ships not to fire at the three men in the Umbaran fighters. Regardless of the fact that both sides were't shooting at them, Oddball was shocked they were able to make it to the supply ship unscathed. 

Fives laughed as he entered the separatist supply ship, "We're going to do it boys!".

Jesse started to laugh along with him, but then a reflection in his shield caught his eye. He quickly turned around to see a republic ship following the trio, "Looks like we have company," he mumbled to himself. 

"He's with us!" Hardcase screamed, letting the other guys know, once he exchanged a nod with the clone republic ship. The four ships rushed to the main reactor, but it didn't take long for some droids to figure out not only that they were there, but what their intention was. They tried to destroy the droids before they could contact their commander, but it was too late. Protection doors began to fall in front of them, but they were no match for the heavy fire power of the Umbaran fighters. 

But Oddball knew this far too well. He quickly tried to contact the other men. "Brothers, it's Oddball. (Y/N) sent me here to protect you. Turn around! Turn around now! I've got it from here!" He commanded, pulling ahead of the 501st. Fives and Jesse did as he said, but Hardcase refused to fall back.

"I'm in this for the 501st!" He yelled, flying along side of Oddball.

"Hardcase, no!" Fives screamed back, stopping in his tracks, "Jesse keep going!" 

Jesse looked back at his brothers in fear, but listened to Fives' orders and continued to fly out of supply ship. As Jesse was flying away, Oddball realized the only way Hardcase would turn back is if he was given direct orders to. He quickly tried to get in contact with you. 

Still hours away from Umbara, your comlink goes off, it's Oddball, "(Y/N)," he yells, making a joint communication with Hardcase and Fives, "Tell Hardcase and Fives they need to leave! Now!"

Confused, you did as he said. You were not fully aware of the situation, but the force told you to listen to Oddball, "Hardcase, Jesse! Oddball's got it from here! Leave!" you cried out.

As soon as the words left your mouth Hardcase and Fives froze. They haven't heard a single thing from you in days and hearing you voice gave them a sense of assurance that you are trying to get to them. Fives gave Hardcase a nod, that being the sign to turn around. 

"They left," Oddball informed you, "I'm going in."

Once Hardcase, Jesse and Fives were far enough out of the supply ship, Oddball shot at the main reactor with all he had. Instantly a crimson glow exploded from the reactor. Oddball quickly turned around to escape the blast. 

On Umbara

Rex looked up at the dark sky as it lit up with a massive explosion. A small smile formed upon his lips, knowing his brothers have succeeded with their plan, but the smile slowly faded once reality set in. Fives, Hardcase and Jesse, Rex's brothers, who just commit a heroic action, were going to be court martialed as soon as they arrive. Rex sighed upon their arrival.  The trio landed back at the Umbaran airbase and jumped out of the fighters with so much joy and pride. 

"We told you!" Hardcase smiled as Rex approached them. With the success of their mission, they expect more of a happy greeting, yet it was the complete opposite. Rex maintained a poker face as he knew Krell wasn't too far behind him. Once Krell got close to the Jesse, Hardcase and Fives, he let out his wrath. 

"I thought I banished your plan! How dare you go against my orders! I order your arrest immediately! You will be court martialed! And if I don't have the time, you WILL be executed!" Krell growled, making Rex scrunch up a bit, bur Krell wasn't done. As four troopers were arresting Fives, Hardcase and Jesse, Krell wasn't finished, "Luckily for these three, we have other things to worry about! The 212th was attacked. The Umbarans seized their armor, and they are coming our way!"
