You anxiously waited outside the temple for an update on Kody. The soft Coruscant breeze blew your your hair and you sighed, looking off at the city. It was your favorite place to sit; a small balcony off your room at the temple, covered with vegetation, providing privacy. As you stared off in the distance, leaning against the side of the balcony, you heard footsteps behind you.
"It's almost as beautiful as you."
You quickly turned around and saw Rex, leaning against the door frame, a small smile on his face,"You shouldn't beat yourself up about it."
You frowned anyway and sighed, that being his que to come to your side. He sat down next to you and wrapped his arm around your shoulders. Still getting nothing from you, he took his arm away from you and took off his upper armor. Once the armor was off, he sat behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you into him. He rested his head on your shoulder and leaned in to kiss your cheek. You finally smiled a bit once you were able to feel his heartbeat against your back.
But your smile quickly faded, "Rex," you whispered, "I'm full of guilt."
"It wasn't your fault," he hummed against your head as he kissed it softly. As much as you wanted to believe him, you still couldn't. You opened your mouth to speak again, but nothing came out. Emotions were about to boil out of you and you didn't know how to express them. But love, love was the only emotion you could express.
You squirmed out of Rex's grip and decided to sit on a small couch you had on the balcony. Rex, on the other hand, retreated back inside. A few minutes later, he came out wearing pajama pants and a tight t-shirt. With a loud exhale, he laid on his back on the couch. You looked over at him and smiled as he patted his chest, signaling for you to lay down on him. You happily took his offer.
He caressed your back with one hand and twisted your hair around his finger with the other. It took you awhile to realize it, but this was the first time in a while you had Rex alone. Almost completely alone. You lifted your head off his chest and looked into his eyes. Both your eyes reflected the same thing, a passion-filled love for each other. You closed your eyes and pressed your lips against his. He kissed back passionately, more passionately than normal.
You pulled back, shaking your head. Your padawan is dying and you're having a make out session. Full of guilt, you completely removed your self from Rex's body and sat up on the opposite side of the couch. With your hands running through your hair, you sighed, believing you were a failure.
Concerned, Rex sat up next to you and put his hand on your shoulder, bending down to make eye contact with you, "mesh'la?"
Mesh'la. You haven't heard that one in a while. The way the word rolled off his tongue made you warm inside, making your face eager to smile, but you just couldn't.
"Rex, my padawan is dying."
He shut his eyes and took a heavy breath, "It wasn't your fault."
"But I was there! I was too weak to stop him! I was defeated by my own father!"
Rex had nothing to say to that. Nothing he said could ever fix what happened, or even lighten the situation.
"I need to see him," you muttered, getting up and leaving to go to the Medical Center, leaving Rex alone.
You anxiously made your way to the medical center. Because of the force, you didn't even need to go to the center to check on Kody's condition, it was bad. The force told you it was bad. Regardless of what the force was telling you, you entered the room Kody was in and sat by his bed side.
"Hello Master," his weak voice shook.
The defeat in his voice cut like knives, "I am sorry I failed you my master," he continued.
"Kody, my padawan. It is my failure that has failed you," you argued respectfully.
"Master," he sighed, shutting his eyes, "I did what I had to do as a Jedi, combat the dark side. I did it, I did my job," he took a heavy yet shallow breath, "Master, let it happen, let it go," he could barely get the last words out.
Slowly, you backed away from Kody's bed. You knew you had to leave, it's what Kody wanted. You took one last glace at Kody.
"I'm sorry I failed you," you mumbled under your breath as you walked out, knowing you would never see your padawan again. You decided to go back to your room before Kody passed; you wanted to be alone when it happened.
But you didn't make it back to your room in time.
(............)
"I failed him Rex!" you screamed as you entered your room. Rex, who was laying on your bed, instantly shot up. He looked at you then threw his head back.
"He's dead Rex. Dead!" you yelled as you came closer to the bed. Rex was still speechless. "Rex!"
"I don't know what to say to you mesh'la, I just don't know," he sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed, making him almost the same height as you. You crashed your body into his, almost knocking him into the bed.
"Rex,"
