"Tell you about the war?" Rex asked with a confused tone, "what am I even supposed to say?".

You rolled your eyes, "Tell me what I don't know."

"Says the Jedi."

Letting out a deep sigh you explained what you meant, "What's going through your head? You haven't been yourself lately, and...well, I want to cure the pain I sense inside you."

He finished chewing his food and bit his lip, staring down at his plate. He took a deep breath before he spoke. "Why does it have to be like this?". He paused, trying to collect his thoughts. "Granted I have you and it is so nice to have someone you can look at and know you have a place for your heart. But-" Rex scathed the back if his next, and did a quick stretch before placing his plate beside him and resting his head on a pillow. "Did I ever tell you about Saleucami?"

You shook your head in response.

"Well, this was a little while before you came aboard the 501st. Jesse, Kix, Hardcase and I were assigned a mission to go to the coordinates of a crashed separatist pod. Along the way I was shot by a commando droid. Long story short, the boys found a farmer's house. The wife of the farmer was home. She let me stay in their barn overnight to recover. Later that night, I met her husband, Cut. He was a clone. He left the war after his squadron was shot down. He started his own life, had beautiful children. But he is a deserter, and that's so wrong. Yet, lately I've wanted to follow his path. I want to be Rex. Not Captain of the 501st. Just Rex." he shut his eyes and exhaled.

It took a second for you to digest all of that and come up with the right words. "You know, I've thought of that too." You placed at him with a reassuring smile as his eyes shot open.

This made him smile, "great minds think alike I suppose?"

He sat up and continued eating his breakfast, "amazing by the way" he said with a stuffed mouth, pointing to his food with his fork.

"Hey, I'd do anything to make sure you aren't eating rations or garbage from the mess hall when you're with me." After giving him a small wink you continued, "have you ever told Cody about Saleucami?"

Rex pressed his lips together and tilted his head, "Well, yes. But, no."

"Care to explain?"

"Could have seen that one coming," he laughed, "Cody is one of my best friends. I tell him everything. Heck, I even told him about my feelings towards you after that mission on Rishi. But I haven't told him how I felt leaving Saleucami. I could never tell him that. We are loyal to the Republic, well I think, and what good would it be if I told Cody that the thought of deserting crossed my mind?"

You shrugged your shoulders, "I don't know, maybe some sort of reassurance that you probably aren't the only clone that feels that way."

"You think so?"

"I know so."

Rex looked at you puzzled, "How? You aren't a clone. You're unique. No one else has the same DNA as you. You weren't made in a factory and then demanded to do the wishes of your superiors."

"Well, you're right and wrong. Yes, I'm my own person but that doesn't mean I was taught to blindly follow orders," you remarked, your voice getting softer as the sentence went on.

"But you're a Jedi and-"

"I'm (Y/N) before a Jedi."

Rex kept opening his mouth, trying to say something but he couldn't seem to find the right words. "Is that why you have possessions?"

"Huh?" you questioned. You understood what he meant but his knowledge of ways of the Jedi came out to be far most vast than you thought.

He looked around the room, "Look at all of this," he looked down at his wrist, glancing at the blue bracelet you gifted him, "this. From my understanding, Jedi are not allowed to even have the smallest of possessions, yet, you seem to just, I guess ignore that."

At this moment, you knew what you had to do. "You're right nuyak nulis." You took a quick look at the painting on the wall before you spoke your next words. Reality was, you were both living in a time of war, and any second, anything could change.

"Rex," you sighed. He smiled, "yes mesh'la"

"Follow me."

You scooted off the bed and took his hand. Before you took a single step you looked up at him, your eyes showing off your nervousness.

"Promise me, what you see next will not change us?"

Rex leaned forward and kissed your forehead, "I promise."
