Suddenly Away

The peaceful night sleep with Rex abruptly came to an end with your comlink ringing with the emergency tone. You looked at Rex, then fell back into his arms. You insured him that no matter how bad it was, it couldn't be too serious.

Unless it was Anakin.

Listening to the annoying tone was driving you both insane, so you rolled out of bed and answered it.

"Yes?" you groaned with sleepiness in your voice. You brought your comlink into bed with you so you could at least cuddle with Rex as this "urgent" matter came up.

"I'm sorry. (Y/N)." It was Anakin, "I'm sure you are having a wonderful time, but we just received word that Grievous is launching a full scale invasion of Naboo. Normally, I would try to send the 212th so you can enjoy your time off, but unfortunately, they need us."

"Great," you thought to yourself, looking at Rex. He could tell that you were not happy at all about this. "I'll be back on the Resolute by 1300," you finally replied, turning your comlink off, then chucking it at the wall.

Rex pulled you in for a hug, trying his hardest to make you happy. Nothing hurt him more than seeing you upset, but he knows damn well that in a time of war, this is always a possibility. "This sucks, I know. But, if I get to fight right beside this gorgeous Jedi the whole time, I can't complain."

There were probably some of the most heart warming words to come out of Rex. You smiled at him and kissed his chin before falling back into his arms.

"Besides," he added, "I'm willing to fight my hardest for you. For us."

Blushing, you ran your hand through his short hair and stopped on the bandage on his head. "Does this feel any better though?"

He ripped off the bandaid and looked at himself through the mirror on your wall next to your bed. Honestly, it looked as if it was healing nicely already. Granted, it was just a small incision,  but there was already new skin forming over it. "Luckily for me, I have a skilled and good looking doctor!" he laughed, resting his head on your shoulder, "it feels great."

"That's good to hear," you smiled, looking over your shoulder and kissing him softly, "but I don't want our time alone to end."

"Neither do I meshl'a, but we won't be apart! Now, let's make something to eat before we have to leave. It's another memory we can make together."

"HOW did I get so lucky???"

"As long as it's with you, sounds good to me!" you chirped, swinging your legs over the side of the bed and getting up, "Anything specific you want?"

"The (Y/N) special?" he winked, following you to the kitchen.

You laughed, "Rex, that doesn't exist! But how do Cinnamon Pancakes sound?"

"Perfect," he nodded, pouring you both a glass of water to drink while making the pancakes. You were doing most the cooking as Rex just had his arms wrapped around your waist and his head on your shoulder. But, it was cute, so you didn't mind.

"You know. I don't need to be a Jedi to sense that you are disappointed." Rex whispered in your ear, turning you around to face him. He looked at you with empathy. Your hurt was his hurt. His hurt was yours.

You closed your eyes and slowly shook your head. "I'll be okay. There's just a lot on my mind."

"Such as?"

"Jedi stuff," you shrugged, turning yourself back around to finish the pancakes. Rex watched you plate the food then walk over to the table and place it down. "You coming?"
