Draco sat at the grand black table in his family manor, eagerly anticipating the arrival of the remaining Death Eaters. The sooner this meeting ended, the better. He just wanted to get back to school after his long summer. The 2 short months felt like an eternity, filled with mystery, pain and Death Eater business. As Voldemort sat proudly at the head of the table, a few more regulars filtered in.
There were still two empty seats that Draco studied, trying to remember if they were ever their in the past. Before he had time to answer his own question, the light clicking of high heals was heard coming from the other end of the room. The young boy looked up to see you being led in by your mother with her hand on your shoulder and a proud smirk on her face. Your head was bowed, not wanting anyone to see you, but knowing all eyes were now on you and your mother.Narcissa took a sharp intake of breath beside her son. As Draco looked over to his mother, a look of pure worry etched her face. She quickly reverted back to her usual neutral look as one or two men began to look in her direction. As you sat on the empty seat, Draco fixated his gaze on you at all times. This is the first time he had seen you since 5th year ended. But you never looked at him. You couldn't bring yourself to raise your head. You felt ashamed. You didn't want to be there. Your mother revelled in the fact her daughter was now a Death Eater, something Narcissa could not say the same about in regards to her son.
Draco scanned your bowed head, searching for any sign of any sort of emotion. But you gave nothing. Draco was worried. He didn't know what the Dark Lord had done or said to you whilst you'd been apart. He was frightened for you.
The whole meeting Draco spent with his eyes fixated on you, while yours were staring at your intertwined fingers that clasped nervously to one another. You and Draco never saw each other again that summer until you both returned to Hogwarts for your 6th year. Your attempts at avoiding the Slytherin Prince were to no avail as being in the same house, it was inevitable you would cross paths sooner or later.
For the first few days you kept your head down, silently willing Draco not to approach you, in fear of what he would say. But soon, the time came when Draco and yourself were left to talk at last.
Alone in the common room, you sat on the long green sofa with a thick, old book in your nimble hands. You were lost in the crinkled tea stained pages of the magic book. The door to the room closed with a heavy thud but you ignored it, deeply engrossed in the story between your finger tips. The weight of the sofa shifted to the other edge, finally pulling you out of your imagination. Looking up, you turned your head to see the blonde boy you had been avoiding, sat next to you. You just started at him, unable to speak or find the right words to say. But Draco want looking at you, he was fixated on the black silk between his fingers as he toyed with the hem of his robes.Looking over his straight figure, he looked thinner than before. He looked exhausted and troubled. You were instantly worried about his well being and felt the sudden urge to fling your arms around the pale boys stick like frame.
Draco took a deep breath. "I need to talk to you. This is serious. I don't want you getting hurt." He spoke evenly and calm, not daring to pull his eyes away from the black material.
You nodded, not that he saw you. "I'm listening." You stated, hoping his perfect silver eyes would flicker up to look at you.
As a young Slytherin entered to room and sat on a desk at the other side of the common area, you both turned to gaze at him. Draco quickly took you by the hand and dragged you up to his room where you could talk privately, without the fear of people coming in. When you both entered the room, Draco slammed the door and walked over to his bed, taking your hand in his so that you would join him.Sitting down on the edge of Draco's comfortable bed, he began once more. "We are both in this together now. I just want to keep you safe. I saw the way your mother smirked. It's not right and I want you to feel safe. I guess I just wanted to check on you." He confessed.
His eyes finally fell onto you, starting at your hands that sat on top of your legs haphazardly, then ever so slowly made his way up to your bright eyes. "She's not who I'm worried about. She keeps inviting over other Death Eaters who are just terrifying. They keep telling me Voldemort has plans for me. I don't want to do anything for him." You panicked in a shaking voice.
Draco draped an arm around your shoulders but looked back down at his hand. "The mans ruthless. But I'll do anything to keep my mother safe." He sounded sincere, as though he understood from experience.
You studied his face which seemed pained and nervous. "What do you mean?" You asked wearily.
Draco closed his eyes tightly and took a deep breath before running his fingers through his well managed platinum hair. "He's- he's given me a mission. I was chosen. To- do something." He told you carefully. Draco didn't know how to word it. He didn't even know if you wanted to know.
You stared at him in anticipation. "What has he told you to do? Maybe I can help-" you tried to reassure him that he wasn't alone.
But Draco cut you off abruptly. "No. Certainly not. You- you can't help. I won't let you." He turned to you, looking deeply into your pleading eyes. "He's told me to do something terrible. I don't want to but he will kill me, my mother and potentially you if I don't. I have to kill Dumbledore." He told you in the most serious tone you have ever heard another human being use.
You swallowed hard, your eyes widening slightly.Draco stood up and paced around the room. "Draco-" you started, trying to calm him slightly.
"No. No, don't say anything. I know what your going to say. I don't want to hear it. I already know it's wrong." He held his hand out, signalling for you not to speak.
You shook your head and stood up, walking over to the fragile boy. "Draco. It's not your fault." You reassured him, slipping your arms around his torso.
His expression was a mix of dejection, pain, worry and uncertainty. "I just don't know what to do." He began, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you into his body tight. "I'm so sorry. I wanted to protect you but I failed. I'm a terrible person." He cried, not allowing himself to actually shed any physical tears.
"No, don't ever say that. I'm sorry I left you. You were right. We needed each other. I thought it would be safer if we were apart but it wasn't. I'm so sorry Draco." You apologised, grasping onto the back of his shirt tightly. You and Draco stood in silence for a few moments before the usually strong mannered boy pulled away to look at you. "I want to protect you. From everything. From everyone. If you had got hurt over the summer, I don't know if I could have lived with myself knowing I didn't do anything." He confessed, looking deeply into the coloured pools in your eyes.
Your face met parallel with his as you initiated a tender kiss. It was simple but spoke more words than you knew. "You don't have to worry about me. We are in this together." You assured him, leaning your forehead against his.
One of his hands let go of you, raising his hand by the side of his head. "Pinky promise?" He wiggles his little finger as you chuckled at the childish nature of the serious situation.
You nodded, taking one hand from around Draco and wrapping your little finger around his. "Pinky promise." You confirmed, smiling sweetly.
You were both still children after all. Children caught up in an adults argument. An adults war with consequences greater than you could both fathom.-
I just had to do a part 2. I'm so sorry, I couldn't leave it like that. It made me depressed to end it that was. Also, thanks to Demi-Deatheater, QueenOfCopper, wallflowertommo, phann_and_5soss, emmarosaliee, _xmgxx, KristineYocto and nickothesicko for requesting a part 2. -A
