Let's be clear about one thing. You hated your name. Not just your name but your entire being. The long length of your hair. Your high voice. The feminine look of your body. The whole lot. You were unhappy, maybe even depressed by the thought of being a 'girl'. You were a boy. Well, at least that's how you felt.
Your parents and your best friend Draco were the only people who knew about you being transgender. Being from a pureblood family, you thought it best to tell them about your sedition to begin using male pronouns and a new name on the last day of the summer holiday, just to be safe. Needless to say, they didn't take it as well as Draco had a year and a half prior. Draco had jumped around the common room, suggesting ways you could both share a room with one another when you officially came out and brainstorming name ideas. Your parents on the other hand didn't take it to well. They rejected your wishes, protesting that "it's just a phase (Y/N)" and "you don't know what your talking about". There was also the heartbreaking thing your father said "but you are my little girl. You always will be. I didn't have a boy, if I wanted on, I would have had another child." After that, you blocked out everything they said. You didn't want to hear the vial thoughts they had so you ignored it. It's safe to say they were strongly against the idea of you ever transitioning.
When you got to Hogwarts in 6th year, Draco was appalled by what your mother and father had said. "Look, (Male/Name). If they don't accept you, Slytherin will. We are a family of our own. And a pretty damn close one at that." He reassured you. "We are always here for you, no matter what." He told you, giving you a smile that showed that he was not lying.
Giving your best friend a weak, but meaningful, smile back, you thanked him. "Cheers Draco. I need to tell people about me pretty soon." You told him and he nodded, saying he would help in any way he could.
That week, you slowly let your house know that you weren't a girl but in fact a boy who wished to be known as (M/N). Everyone took it well. No one was rude and only a handful of people messed up with the pronouns to start of with. But you expected that. It was a change for them as well as you.
You also let Dumbledore know with the help of Draco. Traveling up to his office to tell him, where he told you an inspirational quote that took you a while to work out but he seemed completely fine with the whole matter. Draco did enquired into wether you could start moving into his dorm but that was one thing Dumbledore regrettably couldn't justify just yet. In the future, perhaps, but until you were known as a boy by everyone, you had to sleep in your current dorm.It was a few weeks into the school year and most things were going rather well. Classes were fun. You were getting good grades. People were accepting of you, even in Gryffindor and especially in Hufflepuff. There was just one or two problems. First; your father kept writing to you about what he had been hearing from other parents and how ashamed he was of you. The other was your dysphoria. You weren't happy with your self or your body. But there wasn't much you felt you could do.
One morning while you were lead on the sofa in the Slytherin common room, Draco came wandering up to you and perched on the arm of the green settee. "What's up (Y/L/N)?" He asked poking you in the leg.
As you raised your head, you sighed slightly, shifting over for your friend to sit with you. "I don't want to feel like this anymore. I'm not a boy. I never will be. I don't look like one, my parents won't even consider me one. I just feel wrong all of the time." You quivered, suppressing the need to cry.
Draco wrapped and arm over your shoulder and hugged you tight. He didn't speak for a moment as he was thinking. "(M/N), if you would allow me, I think I have an idea. I'll be right back." He smiled, ruffling your long hair and springing up off of the sofa in a flash.Around 15 minutes later Draco arrived back in front of the fireplace with a collection of Slytherin house members behind him. "(M/N), we want you to feel as manly as possible and we don't care what your family say. You can live with me if it means you can be happy and live the way you want to. So, I enlisted the help of this lot to make you feel more comfortable." He put forward. Your eyes were wide, almost welling up with tears from how caring your house mates were. "It's only if you want it. We won't force you." He reiterated reassuringly.
You nodded profusely, jumping off of the settee and onto your best friend. You wrapped your arms around Draco and cried softly with happiness and gratitude. "Thank you Draco. Thank you so much." You spoke honestly before pulling away and looking at everyone who had joined.
You smiled at them all timidly before Draco clapped his hands together and turned to the group. "Right. Pansy, you said you would do his hair. Blaise and I have some spare clothes we can lend you. Snape is brewing a potion. You guys are going to write to the ministry to get his name officially changed. And I have sent an owl to my mother about letting you stay for a while. Let's all get to work." Draco announced, pointing everyone in various directions. You were swiftly whisked off to your dormitory by Pansy so she could cut your long hair into a more masculine style. It took her around two hours to finish it due to the initial length and the style she had cut it into. In the end it looked so perfect it almost bought you to tears. The top of your hair was longer than the almost shaved sides of your head. The style flowed effortlessly with your look. Pulling Pansy into a tight hug, you thanked her for helping.
She then lead you to the boys dorm where Blaise and Draco handed you clothes to try on. Taking a few select hand-me-downs into their ensuite, you tried them on feeling more at home in the boys shirts and jackets. As you walked out with one of Blaise out grown shirts on, Draco smiled wider than ever. "Well sir. You do look hansom. Obviously when we get a chance to go to a real clothes shop, we can see what they have but this should help in the mean time." Draco nodded.
You shook your head. "This. This is perfect. It's more than I could ever ask for. Honestly. You are all incredible. Thank you." You thanked again, smiling at the two boys in front of you.
A boy from the year below came running into the room with a piece of paper. "I'm just about to send this off. Draco, can you just check it over before I do." He asked, handing over the form to get your name officially changed from (Y/N) to (M/N). Draco nodded, confirming everything was in order. Finally, you and Draco walked to Snapes classroom to talk to him about the potion. "Ah, Mr (Y/L/N). I wondered when Malfoy was going to drag you down here. The potion won't be done for at least a week but I trust you can wait that long." He spoke in his regular monotone voice.
You nodded. "Certainly sir. What exactly will the potion do?" You enquired.
He looked down at the bubbling mixture, then back to you and your best friend. "The brew will increase your production of testosterone and allow your body to take a more masculine form. If that is what you choose." He informed you.
You nodded and thanked him like you had everyone else. You couldn't believe what people were doing for you. It was incredible. "Thank you Draco. You have no idea how much this helped. My patients will most likely use an unforgettable cures or two on me, but it's definitely worth it. Thank you so much." You told him, smiling at your best friend.
He shrugged. "No problem. What are friends for if they came help each other out." He concluded, swigging his arm around your shoulder and strutting back to the common room together.
