You were shy. Not just shy, but awkwardly shy. You were nervous about everything, terrified of people and unsure of the world around you. And you hated it. The feelings never went away and became worse whenever you were around other people such as the famous Draco Malfoy. You'd had a crush on him since you met him in second year and for five years you have been attempting to ask him out. You have never actually been rejected, purely due to the fact that you have never actually got the question over to him. You had planed on asking multiple times but every time, nerves get the better of you and you don't say a word.
Draco was sat on the row in front of you and Dean in your Charms class. His silk platinum hair shon, unlike Snapes who had just walked in to retrieve a troublesome Slytherin from the class. Snapes hair shon for completely different reasons as grease built up in his black string like hair. As Draco's eyes followed Snape out the door at the back of the room, his gaze landed on you. Butterfly's erupted in your stomach and you felt your already red cheeks heat up further. Giving the confident boy a small smile, he raised his eyebrows in acknowledgment and turned back around.
You flopped onto the desk, your head resting on your crossed forearms. You emit a soft groan as you realised how pathetic you were being. Why couldn't you just talk to the boy. It wasn't hard. What's the worst that could happen? You thought to yourself. But that's when you began overthinking things. Multiple thoughts rushed through your head as you quickly comprehended a million scenarios, almost all ending badly.Dean nudged you and your head reluctantly raised from its nest. "What?" You asked in a groggy voice as though you had just been sleeping.
The Gryffindor looked down at you with raised eyebrows. "What's up? You look like you have seen the end of the world." He observed.
Sitting back in your chair, you spoke. "I'm just tired, that's all." You lied. Well, it wasn't really a lie. You were tired, tired of being so awkward. You just wanted to be able to talk to another human being without feeling anxious or as though you were about to make a fool of yourself. You were so tired of feeling like a bad person all of the time.
He didn't look convinced, but went along with it. "Draco looked at you about 4 times while you were just lead there." Dean leant over to whisper.
Your eyes widened. Oh god! You though. He must think I'm an idiot. He was probably wondering why I was so stupid. Oh fuck! Your head began to fill with thoughts of what Draco might be thinking at this very moment. But in that moment, the boy himself looked round at you, half expecting you to still be flat on the desk. Once his eyes fixated on you, he whipped round quickly. That was odd. You though to yourself. You turned to Dean who was looking at you and wiggling his eyebrows. "I think someone likes you." He whispered in a merry tone, smiling at your blushing face.
Draco turned round to face the boy next to you. "Shut up Thomas. It doesn't concern you." He spat, narrowing his eyes and whipping round swiftly to face the front.
Dean just chuckled. "Told you." He spoke, quieter this time. But you could tell Draco still heard by the way his shoulders tensed. At the end of the class, everybody walked out of the room. You wanted to talk to Draco. You though this new found information would give you some confidence to pluck up the courage to ask him on a date. So as you filtered out of the room, you found Draco stood by the opposite wall, minding his own business. Walking up to him with your hands clutched together tightly and your head tilted down, you stopped in front of the Slytherin. Draco was leant against the stone wall, hands shoved deep into his pockets, head held high and eyes scanning the corridor intently.
He looked down at you, the corner of his mouth twitching as he resisted a smile. "(Y/L/N)." He nodded.
You gave Draco a shy smile and began to talk. "Hi, Draco. I- I was- um, wondering. If maybe- I- you er would." You began, stuttering wildly. "Helpmewithmyposionshomework?" You asked all at once, bailing at the last minute.
Draco stared at you, confused. "Sorry. I didn't quite catch that." He apologised. He apologised, he never apologises. You though quickly.
But you just shook your head. "D-doesn't matter. Sorry." You swiftly ran off, cursing under your breath at how stupid you were being. But little did you know, this is what Draco loved about you. It was quirky. He knew you were a little bit awkward around people but he liked that about you. He knew you struggled and for the first time in his life, he wanted to help you. It also helped he had a massive crush on you. That evening, your owl swooped down to you, carrying a neatly folded letter with perfectly formed hand writing.
It read:(Y/N),
I want to tell you this in person, but I will let you know before as well. I really like you. A lot. And I wondered if you would accompany me to Hogsmeade this coming Saturday?
Your truly,
Draco xYou nearly screamed. Was this real? Was this a prank? You hastily dismissed these thoughts as you wanted to treasure this moment. You flickered you eyes up to look towards Draco on the other side of the hall. He grinned at you as your cheeks flushed a light pink shade. The boy chuckled giving you a wink from across the room. Smiling widely, you couldn't wait for Saturday.
