The night of Halloween, Livvy walked into our dorm with a bag in her hand. Her blonde hair cascaded down her shoulders in soft waves. She wore a pair of black skinny jeans, along with a university hoodie.

I looked up from my textbook and waited as that wicked grin of hers crossed over her glossed lips. “We’re going to a Halloween party,”

I arched a brow and shut my textbook, “We are or you are?”

                “We of course,” she replied.

“And what if I don’t want to go?” I replied as I pushed myself up and pulled my knees towards my chest.

“Oh you’re going,” my dorm-mate replied, “I’ve already got your costume.”

She tossed me a package which landed by my feet. The picture on the front indicated it was a floor length white gown with tips dyed blue to match my recently, fresh dyed hair.

“Ice Queen?” I laughed as I dropped the package onto my bed once again. “And what are you going as?” I asked her

                “Athena,”

I couldn’t help the loud laugh that escaped my lips. Livvy Royce, my party animal, boy magnet, room-mate as Athena the Greek virgin goddess? My loud laugh caught my dorm-mates attention and she walked towards me with her packaged costume in hand.

Liv smacked my arm and gave me an annoyed glare, yet the smile that played on her glossed lips told me she wasn’t offended. “It’s Halloween, love.” She began, “A day when we can dress up as people we are not and not be judged. I can be as slutty as I want but let’s be real babe- I do that on the daily.”

Another laugh escaped my lips as my dorm-mate winked and wagged her perfectly shaped and arched eyebrows. She was confidant, confidant enough to speak her flaws and not be ashamed of whom she really was.

I hoped to be able to do that one day. I hoped to be able to say my flaws out loud.

“C’mon” she said as she began moving towards her side of the room, “Get ready. You can’t stay in on Halloween. Halloween is always a night filled with surprises.”

                How right she was.
