{twenty-eight}

                My scream caught the attention of people walking the streets.

Livvy and Jessica stopped bickering, and Jesse and Declan stopped trying to hail a cab.

Across the street, the blonde holding the gun in Roman’s face turned around as my voice screamed out Roman’s name. He lowered the gun, yelled something out at Roman and disappeared into the alley.

                Someone’s arm was wrapped around my waist. Jessica and Livvy were in front of me, asking if I was okay, what was going on, and what I was screaming about. No one saw what I had seen. My friend’s questions reached deaf ears as my eyes were locked with Roman’s dark ones.

                I couldn’t move; I could speak.

                I was frozen.

                Roman remained impassive as our gazes were locked, and it couldn’t have been a minute before he ducked his head and disappeared into the crowd.
