Ethan -

I ended up not taking as long as I thought. The contractor canceled on me last minute so there wasn't much for me to do at the restaurant.

When I got to the house, I saw it had only been an hour and a half since I left. I went up to the door I saw the door was open.

That's weird.

I stepped inside and heard it was completely silent.

"Ren?"

Nothing.

I didn't smell Noah's scent and there didn't seem to be any sign of a struggle.

Fuck.

He couldn't have left. He showed no signs of it...unless he was faking it? Fuck fuck fuck!

I was about to hurry out the door to see if I could catch up to his scent when something caught my eye outside the window.

I noticed Ren walking up to the house from the woods. I let out a sigh of relief for a second but that relief didn't last long.

Not far behind, I noticed the dark silhouette of Ian leaning up against a tree. He was looking down at Ren walking but as if he already knew, his gaze rose up towards my direction and his face slowly contorted into a grin.

I felt a fit of rage that I had yet to feel in a long time. I grabbed the vase on a table and flung it at the wall and watched the pieces explode outward.

"Son of a bitch!" I yelled into the empty house.

A few minutes passed before I finally heard the door open. Ren walked up the doorway but stopped as soon as he saw me, as if a deer in headlights.

"Where were you?" I tried to remain calm. He still had a chance to explain himself.

He looked down, avoiding eye contact.

"Sorry, I-I went out for some fresh air. I've been inside for a long time." I clenched my hand into a tight fist.

Wrong answer.

"Really?" He only replied with a slight nod.

"Um, you're back early." It seemed he was trying to lighten the tone back to before.

"There wasn't much to do."

"Oh."

We stood there for a few seconds in silence. My mind raced. What the hell was I supposed to do.

He finally broke the silence.

"I think I better leave. Thank you for what you done to help me." I could almost hear my composure actually snap.

"Leave? Where do you intend to go?" I couldn't keep my voice steady anymore.

"I-I'll go into town and look for my brother. We had famil-"

"DON'T FUCKING LIE!"

He jumped back.

"I-I-am not."

"Why don't you tell me where you are actually going, huh? Going to crawl back to Ian? Have him reward you for all your good work?"

"That's not true!"

"THEN WHAT IS!"

"I just want to leave." His voice trembled.

"Like fucking hell! Tell me, what else was a lie? Did you even have a brother? Were you ever left with Ian or did you go running to him in hopes of being helpful?"
