Ren -
Ethan had the hostess go back to work and pulled me away to the office in the back. When there, he shut the door behind him and proceeded to question me.
"Why are you here? Who told you about this place?" He asked.
"Logan, he- I saw him while at a coffee shop and asked him."
"That piece of -"
"Why did you leave?" I finally asked. He tensed for a second and then sighed.
"I-"
"Where's the ticket for table 9!" A man shouted outside.
"Are you in a hurry to get home?" He switched the subject.
"N-not really."
"Come with me. There's not much privacy here." He grabbed my arm and guided me out the back door and to his car. I went in without protest but still questioned his intentions.
"Where are we going?" I asked, not having fully closed the door.
"My place." He left it at just that. I shut the door and we drove away.
The short car ride was quiet with only a news station playing on the radio as white noise.
I quickly glanced at my phone to make sure Aki hadn't called.
Once we arrived to his apartment building a few blocks away from the restaurant, he lead me up to his place.
It was smaller than Aki's but still had it's stylish take with cool blues contrasting reds. I noticed some red roses on the glass dining table that looked to be wilted and with petals half fallen.
Ethan threw his keys on the kitchen counter and pulled off his coat.
"Um, it's kinda late to ask but is it alright for you to have left?"
"Yeah, it's not busy at this time and the manager is there anyways."
There was an awkward silence. I clutched to my elbow trying to think of something to say.
"How are you?" He finally asked. I couldn't hold back a laugh.
"After everything that's happened, that's the only thing you have to say?"
"What do you want me to say?"
"Why not start with why you left?"
He didn't say anything.
"Did you assume I would forget what you said that night?....Did you forget what I said?"
"Ren, it was for the best you went back to your brother and started over."
"Then...what about that night? Did I just dream everything?"
Ethan didn't say anything.
"In case I did... I love you. No matter what you do to me, no matter how much you push me away." As I spoke, I felt my chest tighten.
"You only feel like that because of the imprint."
I had heard that word before. I had asked Aki and he explained to me what it was.
"And what if I am? Doesn't it mean anything?"
"The imprint probably will undo itself in time."
"I don't want it to be undone."
"Even if you don't, I can't forgive myself for what I did."
"But I forgive you."
"You'll find someone else, someone better. I'm not the only one in the world."
