Chapter Twenty-Five

Ren -

I could hear more voices than just Basel so I knew something else was going on.

I know Ethan told me not to worry but clearly something was wrong. Sitting in bed, I listened for any words I could make out but with them being in the kitchen, which was opposite of the house, it was hard to make out anything.

I stood up slowly, as it was hard to move very well, and carefully made my way to the door. I still couldn't hear much so I went out into the hallway and held the railing for the stairs.

"...realize what this means, right?"

"Yeah....en will finally be safe."

As I made my way down one step at a time, their conversation became clearer.

"What if he kills you? What is going to happen to those two?"

" This is the last chance we have to stop him and if it means risking my life to keep them safe, I'm willing to do it."

"This isn't something you can just sum up so easily. Really think about this."

"Ren..." Logan had spotted me.

I had covered my mouth with my hand and tried to suppress my cries.

All of them suddenly turned to me and the only thing I could do is sprint back up to the room.

No no no no no......

NO!!

Ian will kill Ethan.

I don't want to lose him! No! I don't want to be alone again. I can't do this. Ethan, I just got him back. I can't...I can't do this. I'm so scar-

"Ren." Ethan came into the room.

I couldn't turn to see him. I gripped onto a pillow on the bed and curled into a ball.

I heard him wordlessly climb onto the bed next to me and wrap his arm around me.

"Ren...Everything will be alright."

I couldn't speak.

"If we don't do this, Ian isn't going to stop. He'll keep fighting until he has you and has killed both me and the baby."

"I don't want you to die." I choked.

"I won't. They are just being overdramatic. I promise I'll come back, okay?" Ethan held me tighter to make up for the uncertainty in his words.

"The baby, you haven't picked out a name for him yet right?" Ethan said stroking my bump and nesting his face into my neck.

I only gave a small head shake, scared of any cries I might make as I opened my mouth.

"Let's pick one out now. Have you thought of any?"

"F-Finn..." I softly forced out.

"Finn? Where did you get that from?"

"A book Aki read for me. Finn was the main character."

"Heh, okay then, Finn it is. I was just going to go with Ethan junior but I guess Finn has a better ring to it."

"P-please come back...." I gripped onto his arms as tears welled up again.

He turned my face towards me but I couldn't open my eyes. Without a word, he kissed my lips softly and muffled my cries as I turned to hug him. His body followed and turned to hold me up to his chest and pressed tightly.

"I will, I won't leave you alone. I promise." He hummed as he stroked my hair.

I only cried knowing that the promise was impossible to keep and knew Ethan was aware of that too.
