Chapter twenty-nine

My phone rung next to me as I was laying in bed the next morning, having just woke up a few moments ago. I grabbed my phone and answered it, mumbling some kind of greeting to the person on the other end. I just hoped the phone call wasn't someone important or professional.

"It's mum." My mother's voice said through the phone.

"Oh hi mum.." I said, slightly confused as to why she was ringing me at eight in the morning.

"So I was on my way to work this morning, stopped off at the shop to get something to eat for breakfast on my way." She told me.

"Okay?" I questioned, wondering why she was telling me this and how it was any importance to me.

"And came across the magazine stand, one catching my eye in particular." She carried on and that's when I knew what she was getting at, Aston and I had obviously been caught last night by the paps. I just hoped the engagement ring wasn't noticeable.

"Oh yeah, anything interesting on it?" I asked, playing dumb.

"Yeah actually, try my daughter's face!" She snapped, taking me back a little. I thought she was be happy about me getting back with Aston, she loved him to moment she met him.

"About that.." I stuttered, I knew I was going to get a lecture next.

"Why didn't you tell me? Instead I have to find out from a magazine that my daughter is dating a pop star again, not to mention the massive rock on her finger!" She shouted making me jump and hold the phone away from my ear before she deafened me. I think her shouting must have woken Aston because I could feel him stirring next to me.

"I'm sorry mum, I was going to tell you." I sighed, rolling my eyes as she said 'pop star' rather than Aston, that's all she cared about really. Bragging to her friends about how her daughter was dating someone famous.

"When was this exactly?"

"I don't know, soon.."

"After the whole nation knew?"

"No, he only asked last night."

"You should have called me last night then."

Aston rolled into me and rested his arm across my front, placing little kisses on my shoulder making me smile to myself even though I was getting a earful from my mum.

"Sorry but I was too happy, I wanted to spend the night with Aston. Telling people was the last thing we were thinking about." I said.

"Your dad wasn't too happy about it when I told him either."

"You told dad?!"

"Of course, he would want to know his daughter is getting married!"

"I wanted to tell everyone.."

"Well you should've thought about that before you flashed your ring about."

"I wasn't flashing it about, if anything I didn't want them to see it."

"Hard to miss it, it looks expensive.."

"That doesn't matter!" I snapped. It irritated me how she was on about money all the time, all she cared about was whether the person I was with earned a lot of money and not much if I was happy at all. Aston frowned and sat up like I already was.

"You and Aston should come over for dinner tonight, we can talk then." My mum suggested, her voice much calmer and completely ignoring what I just said to her.

"I don't know mum, I don't think that's such a good idea." I bite my lip, looking at Aston who was looking at me with a worried expression, his thumb stroking over the back of my hand.
