(Levi x Petra) Shock

Chapter Two: Anniversary

A/N: Sorry that I haven't updated for so long. I had writer's block. I will try to update more often. Enjoy this chapter. 

Another day, let's just get it over with.

Captain Levi Ackerman's morning mantra was what would get him through life. Growing up in the Underground District of Wall Sina, Levi had to go through heinous and gruesome trials in order to survive and and get one slice of bread. He would tell himself everyday to get the work and day over with so he could live to survive another day. So he could live to see the world above. These days, with the war going on, Levi had altered his mantra.

Another day. Do what you have to do, and survive another day.

Not too cheerful, but then again, it is hard to be cheerful nowadays.

After waking up, mentally reciting his mantra over and over again, showering, and getting dressed, Levi walked down to the Headquarters' kitchens to make himself some breakfast, which would consist of a warm glass of tea, and buttered bread. Walking down the stairs, Levi could hear a chittering, young woman gushing about her new Titan test subjects.

Perfect. Here comes Four-Eyes. Levi braced himself for a little chat with Commander Hange Zoe. You had to respect the commander of the Survey Corps, and Levi did, but he was still aggravated with Hange's cheerfulness. She had to be a little more serious. She was the Commander of the Survey Corps!! Not to mention that Marley could attack any day.

"LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Levi heard Hange chirp as she practically jumped right next to him.

"What do you want, Four-Eyes?" Levi snapped blankly at the young woman jumping up and down next to him.

"That's quite an attitude to address your superior with, Captain," Hange said with a half-goofy, half-serious tone.

Levi immediately faced the Commander and did the salute that all soldiers did with their superiors. He gave his heart (A/N: NOT IN THE ROMANTIC WAY).

"Forgive me, Commander," Levi said with a tone that was still blank, but with less attitude, "What is that you need?"

"Nothing, o Heartless One, just thought I'd say good morning to you, considering you know what day it is today," Hange said half-solemnly and half-cheerfully.

This was enough to stop Levi in his tracks. Today was the day. The anniversary of the failed 57th Expedition of the Survey Corps. The day the Female Titan a.k.a. Annie Leonhart had brutally murdered many soldiers, including Gunther Schultz, Erd Gin, Oluo Bozado, and... Petra Ral. Of course he knew what today was.

"Thanks for reminding me again, Abnormal," Levi said, not looking at the Commander.

"No problem," Hange said before running up the stairs.

As Levi practically clutched the wooden railing for life, old and buried emotions began to surge through him as he remembered that very moment he had found their bodies. Especially that very moment he found her body.

Flashback

He heard that roar. That furious, rageful roar that was too loud and too... beastly to be human. Though he never heard that roar in person before that time, he had heard enough stories from the rookies to immediately know who it was.

So the Yeager brat transformed. What could have possibly happened? Levi thought as he zoomed through the colossal trees with his 3DM gear. He didn't know how, but he just knew that the beast responsible for Yeager's transformation was the new threat to their expedition, the Female Titan.

After a few minutes, Levi noticed a dark blur in the distance. Taking a detour from his planned route, he turned and headed in the direction where the blur was. As he got closer to the silhouette, it began to take the shape of...of... a body. Yeah, a body. Levi noticed that the body-shaped silhouette belonged to a human, and that it was hanging upside down. Slowing down as he got closer to the body, his nerves were electrocuted with shock as he looked upon the dead body of Gunther Schultz.

What? What happened? How could he be dead?

Levi whizzed pass Gunther's body... only to find another body of someone he definitely knew. More than half of the second body was bitten horizontally, the only remnants being anything above the torso. Blood had been split everywhere, and, like Gunther's body (and the other two bodies yet to come), blank, lifeless eyes stared up into nothing.

No, no, no, not Eld!!!

Levi could hear his prayers, even though he never prayed.

Let the other two be alive. Oh God, let Petra be alive.

He didn't know what he would do if Petra was dead.

His prayer ended up being focused on Petra, due to the fact that found Oluo's bloodied and broken body as soon as he found Eld's. Zooming past more trees, he turned the corner, but once he did, his heart couldn't handle what he saw before him. There, slammed against the tree trunk, staring up into space, once amber, and (he admitted it) beautiful eyes as dead and blank as his he thought his heart was. Ginger-colored hair had drifted in the wind, stroking her cheek every now and then. Her face and back were broken and bloody. Petra.

No. No. She can't be gone. She-she.

As he stared down at that bloody, broken body that used to belong to a woman whose skill he admired, a woman who loved him, his heart felt... pain. Pain, the feeling of hurt creeping into your body. Pain, the feeling of blood.

Pain, the feeling that Levi had felt as he had stared down at a woman who was in love with him. A woman who... who... a woman who he had loved.

The memory came and it went, but that horrible moment where he had found Petra's body had stuck with him. That moment where he realized that not only had he loved Petra that entire time, but he never told her, and he never will.

Hello, readers!! I felt that I had to clear a few things up with you. I watch the Japanese sub of Attack on Titan, so if you don't mind, I think I'm going to call Levi "Levi Heichou" now. It has a better ring to it, if you ask me. 

And for every single Attack on Titan fan out there, SEASON TWO IS FINALLY HERE!!!!! Took them long enough, am I right?
