(Levi x Petra) Shock

Chapter Nine: The Expedition

Author's Note: Well, I have finally updated. Sorry about that. I have just been busy. But either way, here is the chapter you all have been waiting for. 

The Survey Corps were always one to plan expeditions and attacks quickly, as their long-time soldiers had the expertise. However, this expedition was planned quicker than anyone in The Wall Eldian's military history could remember. Sure, it was agreed that this expedition had to be planned as quickly as possible, if it was these soldiers safety that was on the line, but it was definitely quickly planned. But then again, Levi Heichou did rush everyone.

The night before the expedition, Levi had already packed everything he needed, including emergency 3DM gear in case Marley had turned another Mainlander Eldian into a mindless titan once again. So now, he was practicing his lines. What for? For when he reunited with Petra. And yet every line he said just seemed so... not right? And it seemed that each time, it would get worse.

"Petra... I love you. That's too sudden. It's been 4 years,"

"Petra, go out with me! That's too soon,"

"Be my wife! I don't even know what I'm saying anymore,"

And as if the whole thing couldn't get worse, it did, because when he was in the middle of the whole "Be my wife" line, the Titan Brat just had to walk in. But by the time Levi realized that Eren was in the room, he had already finished it, and Eren was just holding in all the laughter he could.

"Are you laughing at me, Yeager?" Levi snapped.

Eren immediately straightened up and gave the salute.

"No, Heichou, sir!"

"Good. Now why are you here?"

"Commander Hange wanted me to check up on you, Heichou," Eren said, bringing his arms down from the salute.

"Why does Commander Four-Eyes want you to check up on me?" Levi asked, raising his brow.

"Well, she was a bit worried about how you are over-working yourself over this particular expedition. Of course, I knew, but I didn't tell her why," Eren said, a small smirk forming on his lips.

"You better not have, Yeager," Levi replied.

"I didn't. But Heichou, honestly, you don't need the lines," Eren said, not thinking.

"What?" Levi asked.

Eren tensed up upon realizing he said something before thinking, but it was too late to bail out now, so he just took a deep breath to reaffirm his words.

"You don't need the lines, Heichou. Just be who you are when you see Petra-san again. After all, that's who she fell in love with," Eren replied.

After Eren left, Levi laid down in his bed, knowing that what Eren said was probably right. Petra loved Levi for who he was, not who he wasn't. So when he saw her again tomorrow, he would just have to try and be himself. No one else, but himself.

The next day was hectic as the Survey Corps prepared to go outside the walls to save their not-so-fallen soldiers. Parked in front of the gate of Shiganshina, which had recently repopulated over the years, the Survey Corps were preparing themselves, listening to the shouts of encouragement from the civillians. Out of the corner of the eye, Levi could see Eren looking a tad... homesick. While riding to the gate, Levi saw that Eren was staring at a specific spot in one neighborhood. A spot, unlike the others, in which a house had remained to be rubble, and and old part of the wall was still resting on top. Levi remembered that when Shiganshina was once again repopulated, the military had left the remains of the old Yeager household for some study reasons, and for another reason. Queen Historia was kind enough to tell the military to not rebuild the Yeager house for another reason. And that reason... well, was Eren. She left the house untouched in case Eren wanted to rebuild it himself, and, possibly, for his family in the future.

The family members of the old Squad Levi soldiers had traveled all the way from Karanes to see the Survey Corps off. They were filled with excitement upon seeing the soon-to-be rescuers of their children. From the corner of his eye, Levi could see Mr. Ral give him a thumbs-up, upon which Levi returned with a little smile. But he soon regained focus as the gate began to open. It was not long before he heard Hange shout the word that would start it all.

"FORWARD!!!"

And the expedition began.
