Chapter 8: Museum Fun

At Abby's house, it was the day after competition, which was StarQuest in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. There, Brooke got first place, Chloe got second and Maddie had gotten third place and the group dance was second. Abby was sitting on the couch with Kalani with a bichon frise next to them, which was named Broadway Baby after the song in the broadway musical Follies and the time was 12:00 PM.

"What do you think is gonna happen today, mom?" Kalani asked her mother.

"I don't know, sweetie." Abby answered. "Maybe we can go to the Museum of Science & Industry, what do you think?

"That sounds like a great idea! Maybe we can invite Stanley and Allison to go with us if they're up for it." Kalani said.

"Ok." Abby said, then she pulled out her cell phone and began to dial her son's cell phone number.

At Stanley's house, Stanley was seen putting on a red tracksuit with a hooded jacket and had put his long hair in a ponytail and he was then sitting on the couch and he heard his phone ring, he picked it up and saw that it was his mother calling, then he answered. "Hello, mom."

"Hi, Stanley. I've got a question for you." Abby said.

"What's on your mind, mom?" He asked.

"Kalani and i are planning to go to the Museum of Science & Industry today and we were wondering if you'd like to go with us?" Abby wondered.

"Mom, count me in!" Stanley answered.

"Ok, meet us at the train station as soon as you can, we'll be getting on the 12:20 train." Abby said.

"All right, i will." Stanley responded, then he went to get his coat, his cell phone, camera and keys, then he locked the door and went to his vehicle, which was in the driveway at 12:07 PM, Stanley got in the vehicle and put the key in the ignition, turned it and left the drive way, called Allison and picked her up, then eight minutes later, he arrived at the station and saw his mother's escalade next to an empty spot, he parked next to it, paid for the parking place and walked upstairs to the nothern platform where Abby and Kalani were standing.

"There's my bro and Allison." Kalani stated as she hugged her btother, then she hugged Allison.

"Hello, Lani." Stanley responsded to his sister, the he hugged his mother. "Hello, mom."

"Hi, Abby." Allison said.

"Hi, Stan, Hi, Allison. Glad you made it. I already got your tickets for you." Abby said, giving them their train tickets and then at 12:20 PM an inbound train to Chicago arrived at the station and when the doors opened, they got on 45 seconds later, the train exited the station.

Around 1:47 PM, the four arrived at Chicago Union Station, when the train came to a stop, they got off and were in the concourse and walked through the grand waiting room, headed upstairs and exited.

"How are we going to get to the Museum?" Stanley asked.

"Maybe we can take the #126 Jackson bus and transfer to a #6 Jackson Park Express Bus and get off at 56th and South Hyde Park." Abby suggested.

"That sounds like a great idea, Abby." Allison agreed.

"The bus stop is across the street on Jackson." Kalani said as she, Abby, Stanley and Allison all walked south and crossed Jackson and were now standing near the bus stop and waited for the bus and a minute later, the #126 bus arrived and they got on and paid their fare.

Eight minutes later, their bus arrived at State/Jackson and they got off and walked north onto state street and stood at another bus stop and waited for the #6 Jackson Park Express bus as they waited, they watched the traffic of cars and buses go down State Street and then the #6 Bus arrived and it was an articulated bus aka a 60 foot bus and when the bus was going down Lake Shore Drive, Allison accidentally touched Stanley's hand and there was electricity going through them both as they smiled at each other as Abby and Kalani looked on.

"Mom, do you think they like each other?" Kalani asked.

"I think they do, but they don't want to admit it." Abby whispered.

Sixteen minutes later, the articulated bus arrived at the Hyde Park/56th bus stop and there, Abby, Stanley, Kalani and Allison all got off of the bus and they saw the museum.

"Earlier this week, me and Stanley had gotten our Museum of Science and Industry passes renewed in case we forgot to inform you." Abby told Allison and Kalani.

"That's good, i got mine renewed this past weekend, so i'm good for the remainder of the year and set for next year.

"All righty, who's ready to explore the museum?" Stanley asked.

"I'm ready when you are." Kalani stated, then they all walked towards the museum and they entered the museum and they showed their passes, given their cards and went through and were looking around.

"This place looks even better than i remember." Allison said.

"I agree." Stanley added. "What exhibit do you want to see first?"

"Let's check out the Toymaker 3000." Abby suggested.

"I haven't seen that in a long time, i'd love to see it." Allison agreed.

A few minutes later, Abby, Stanley, Allison and Kalani were on the second level after getting on two escalators all arriving at the exhibit named Toymaker 3000, it had twelve moving robots, a two thousand square foot assembly line that was automated and per hour, it could assemble three hundred toy tops as Kalani noticed a scanner.

"Mom, what does scan mean?" Kalani asked Abby.

"Lani, it means that when you scan it with your Museum of Science & Industry card, it makes you your own gravitron toy top with your name on it, also you can choose whatever color that suits you well and you can watch it be made." Abby responded to her daughter. "And i know Stanley still has his collection of gravitron toy tops."

"Yes, i still have that collection." Stanley said.

"Try it out, Kalani." Allison told her.

"Ok." Kalani said, she scanned the card and the automated assembly line began constructing the gravitron toy top, which took five minutes and Kalani chose the purple color and then she got it from where it fell out.

"What do you think, Kalani?" Abby asked.

"It's cool!" Kalani answered. "Where to next?"

"How about the Numbers in Nature: A Mirror Maze?" Allison asked.

"That doesn't sound like a bad idea." Kalani said as they all headed over to the exhibit, they showed their tickets and walked through the maze, it changed colors as they walked, they saw a lot of numbers that had several characteristics of geomatric patters, which were reptetition, tessellation and symmetry, then they exited. "That was cool!"

"It was, Lani." Stanley chuckled. "How about we to the second level? I'd love to see those planes."

"Ok." Abby agreed and they all walked to the red stairs, which has an Elevator in the middle and they headed up to the second floor.

"I didn't know they had an elevator in the middle of the red stairs." Kalani told them.

"Kalani, this museum also has blue stairs, green stairs and yellow stairs." Stanley informed his sister, then they were on the second floor and saw all of the planes and one of them was a boeing 727 from United Airlines and then after seeing the planes, they toured the Pioneer Zephyr, which is a diesel powered railroad train that traveled from Denver to Chicago in over 13 hours. Then after exploring some more of the museum, they left and caught a train back home to Naperville.
