Chapter 10: Ringing in 2012

It was December 31 and that was the last day of 2011 and at midnight, it would be a new year and at Navy Pier, the time was 11:58 PM and there were a lot of people waiting for the fireworks to ring in 2012, in the crowd was Abby and Stanley, who were up front getting a great view to watch the fireworks. Kalani was with Maddie, Mackenzie and Melissa at their house as Allison, the moms, other girls and their families were there too, throwing a new year's party.

"2011 is about to end and 2012 will begin and what a year it was." Stanley stated.

"You know it, son." Abby agreed. "What do you think will happen this upcoming year?"

"Dealing with momma drama and beating those Candy Apples like we always have!" Stanley predicted.

"Those are very likely going to happen." Abby stated.

"I might have forgot to ask you this, but where will the last competition of the first half of the dancing season be at?"

"It'll be in New York City." Abby answered.

"I can't wait to go to New York City, we could go see a broadway show while we're there." Stanley told his mother, then he looked at his watch and saw that it was 11:59 PM with 20 seconds left in 2011. "Mom, the fireworks are about to star and that means that it's time for the countdown."

"10.....9.....8.....7.....6.....5.....4.....3.....2.....1! HAPPY NEW YEAR!" Everyone who was at Navy Pier shouted and they were telling each other happy new year with hugs, kisses and handshakes.

"Happy new year, mom." Stanley told his mother as he gave her a hug, then he kissed her on the cheek.

"Happy new year to you too, sweetheart." Abby responded, giving him a hug back and kissed him on his cheek and then the sound of whistling was heard and that was the start of the first firework and it exploded in a shower of color as everyone looked on at the fireworks.

"Mom, those fireworks are amazing."

"They are."

Stanley turned on his camera, which was a Nikon D90 and began taking pictures of the fireworks show, which lasted for at least 16 minutes and when it ended, everyone cheered and began heading for home, Abby and Stanley got into a taxi to take them to Chicago Union Station, which took 12 minutes.

"The train doesn't leave until 12:40 am and we had 14 minutes to spare." Abby stated as they got out of the cab after paying the driver.

"Yep, i knew we could make it." Stanley said as he and his mother both entered Chicago Union Station, got their tickets to Naperville and got on the last Metra BNSF train of the night and at 12:40, the interior lights of the train dimmed, which meant that the train was going from station power to engine power, then it began moving and the lights came back on. Then around 1:37, Abby and Stanley got off of the train, walked to their cars, hugged and went their respective ways to their houses.

The next day at Stanley's house, which was the first day of 2012,, Stanley got out of the shower and got his hair the way he wanted it and put on a white #10 Patrick Sharp Blackhawks jersey and black trackpants. He then put on a coat and headed out to see what he was going to do for the first day of the new year.

"I'm in the mood to get some lunch, i think i might head to Chili's." Stanley stated to himself, then he got his keys and cell phone and then he locked up his house and headed to the garage and got in his escalade.

15 minutes later, he arrived at a restaurant named Chili's Grill & Bar which was on IL-59 near Liberty Street, he parked near the entrance, then got out of his vehicle and walked to the entrance, he opened the door, walked inside and saw that Melissa, Maddie and Mackenzie were sitting, waiting for a table.

"Hi, Maddie. Hi, Kenzie and Hi, Melissa." Stanley greeted, then the Zieglers turned to see him standing near the door.

"Hi, Stanley!" Melissa said as she hugged him, then Maddie and Mackenzie hugged Stanley next. "What brings you to Chili's on the first day of 2012?"

"I was in the mood for some lunch, so i came here." Stanley answered.

"You're full of surprises." Maddie told him.

"He is." Mackenzie agreed. "How was the fireworks at Navy Pier with Miss Abby?"

"It was amazing, we enjoyed ourselves." Stanley said. "How was your New Years Party?"

"We had a lot of fun, Maddie and Kalani had a dance off and it was a tie because they didn't give up and Allison was there too, we played a lot of games too." Melissa answered, then she went to the host and asked if there was a table for four, then he guided Melissa, Maddie, Mackenzie and Stanley to a booth, Stanley sat next to Maddie as Mackenzie sat with Melissa, then they looked at the menu, then a waitress came to their table.

"Hello, my name is Alice and i'll be your waitress, would you like to order now or start with an appetizer?"

"We'd like to order now." Melissa replied.

"I'll have the classic ribeye, medium well with fries and a coca cola with no ice." Stanley told Alice.

"I would like to have the grilled chicken salad with a coca cola as well." Melissa added.

"I'd like to have the pepper pals cheesy chicken pasta." Maddie said.

"Kraft's Mac and Cheese, please." Mackenzie stated as Alice took their orders, then Alice let them know that their food would be ready in 10 minutes and she left to serve another table, then 10 minutes later, their food arrived and they began eating.

"Stanley, i have a question. How long have you and Abby been coming to eat at Chili's?" Melissa asked.

"Melissa, mom and i have been going to Chili's since i was little, the first time i was in one was when i was five and it was a week after Michael Jordan had led the Chicago Bulls to their fourth title in six years." Stanley responded.

'I've been coming here for a long time as well and after i had Maddie and Mackenzie, i began bringing them here in 2007." Melissa said.

"Kenzie, did you eat any chips during your new years party?" Stanley wondered.

"Yes i did." Mackenzie laughed.

"She almost ate all of the lays potato chips." Maddie told him. "Remember that time she ate all of your pringles?"

"I remember that very well."

"Where is Miss Abby?" Mackenzie asked.

"She's at home, probably getting things ready for the competition this upcoming saturday." Stanley said.

"Knowing Abby, she just might be." Melissa agreed as they continued eating their food, then they were done and Sebastian paid the bill, left a $110 tip as they left Chili's and headed to their respective homes for the remainder of the day and tomorrow, it was going to be another day in the studio.
