"A children's park?" I hissed, completely annoyed from the fact that he dragged me all the way down here under the blazing sunlight. "Why this park? There's a lot of annoying kids here."
I was pertaining to the children who were playing in the sandboxes, monkey bars, slide, swings, and see-saws.
One child almost fell into the fountain, two toddler twins were crying, there's a lot going on, and just listening to their irksome sounds is enough to give me a migraine that can last a week.
"I hate kids." I mumbled, "Why this place again?"
"Because there's an ice cream truck here." Sendoh replied. "C'mon. Let's go buy some."
There was a boy and a girl standing in their tiptoes by the truck. I went past them, choosing what flavor to buy.
"Hey giant, we were here first!" the boy shouted. I turned, sticking my tongue at him, ignoring the fact that he was in line. "Hey, no fair!" He shouted again. "You're too big that you're in the way!"
I crouched down to get into the level of his vision, and muttered with a glare, "Shut up, you little shit. It's your fault you're too small."
Then he just started to cry. Kids. I will never understand them.
"Ayane." I heard Sendoh dragged the tone while he called my name. When I looked up, he was carrying the girl in his arms. "You need to apologize to the kid".
"The fuck are you doing?" I stood up, still annoyed from the unstoppable cries of the kid beside me.
"I'm carrying the girl 'cause she said she can't see the ice cream flavors."
"You can be mistaken for a kidnapper, you know."
That must be the reason she was on tip-toes.
"She- SHE MADE ME CRY!" The boy went into another outburst, sniffing the snot that was flowing out his nose.
"Not so tough now, are you?" I teased the boy, which made him wail, busting my eardrums.
"Ayane, just say you're sorry." Sendoh turned his back, and let the girl that was in his arms pick the flavor of ice cream she wanted.
I crouched, taking out my handkerchief.
"Okay, shut the hell up, brat."
Then he cried again, even louder than it was the last time. I looked at Sendoh, and the girl was already having her ice cream cone.
"You need to do better than that, Ayane." Sendoh told me. He placed the girl down and she ran off to take a seat near the fountain.
"Freaking shut up, please?" I mused.
"You should cut off the cursing." Sendoh says, handing his pay for the ice cream.
"Okay, okay, here. Listen to me, boy." I used my hanky to dry the boy's tears, "If you shut up, I will buy you ice cream."
"B-but that was what I was do-doing before you- YOU MADE ME CRY!"
"Listen, I'm sorry." I mumbled, then I looked at Sendoh, he was licking an ice cream while watching me apologize to the boy. I mouthed a what now and he shrugged.
"Here." I turned my back at him. "I'm sorry." The boy stopped his cries. "Don't cry, I'll buy your ice cream for you."
"You're giving me a piggyback ride?" The boy said, before climbing up my back. The boy giggled when I stood up. "It's like riding a giraffe!" He exclaimed.
"It's like giving a piggyback to an elephant." I told the boy.
Man, he was heavy.
"Lady, why does your hair smell like berries?" The boy innocently asked.
"That must be from my shampoo."
"What was your name again?" He asked.
"Ayane."
"Ayane nee-san." He says, smiling.
I smirked, and let the boy choose. When he was done I placed him down and he sat next to the girl at the fountain. I bought a cone of strawberry ice cream and Sendoh and I made our way to sit at a nearby bench.
"I always make kids cry." I say, licking at my ice cream. "They're always afraid of me."
"Because you curse and glare at them."
"It's not my fault they're annoying. I like quiet kids, they're less of a pain in the butt, not those wild and rowdy ones."
I saw a kid fall over and I didn't notice that I mumbled a get rekt under my breath.
We were stopped when a little girl asked us quite an awkward question.
"Are you two a couple?" She said in her squeaky voice.
"No!" Sendoh replied hastily.
"He's my friend." I said.
"Did that hurt you, mister?" She turned to Sendoh,
"Excuse me, what was that little girl?"
"I saw in t.v. that guys get hurt when they are told that they're only the girl's friend."
Okay, she's about half my age and she already knows something about love.
"I'm fine with it." Sendoh said.
"You two are too tall...like giants!" Another child popped up.
After what seemed a minute we were encirled by a lot of children. It was surprising, they kept on asking us questions. My ice cream started to melt so I threw it away.
"What can you do?" A boy pointed at Sendoh. "Your hair's so spiky!"
"I can play basketball."
"That's cool!" All of them said in amazement.
"How about you?" Their eyes travelled to look at me.
"I can't do any--"
"Ayane can play the piano."
"We don't believe you!" They sticked out their tongues.
"Here's a video of her playing."
Sendoh took out his phone, showing them what I did a while ago.
"She's really good, right?" Sendoh said with glee.
"You recorded me while I was playing?" I exclaimed furiously. Sendoh stuck his tongue out.
"Ayane nee-san, I can play the violin." A girl raised her hand.
"O-okay. Good luck with that." I said.
"You look like a rockstar!"
"Why do you have many earrings?"
"You're pretty, Ayane nee-san." A boy gave me a flower. He must've picked it up from a bush here somewhere.
They just stayed there, infront of us, fascinated from the stories Sendoh told hoping someday they'd reach our age and do the things we do.
Maybe kids aren't that bad after all.
