Ayane's POV
I took Sendoh's hand and we went inside, embraced by the comfort of lights that bounced off of our soft beige walls, leaving the harsh chill of the argent snow behind us. It is a pleasant night not because of the delicious and satisfying dinner I'm about to have with my parents and my lover but because of the sky--- it was black velvet with diamonds, a stark contrast to the white that enveloped the earth.Though nonidentical from one another, when given the chance to meet, it creates something that pleases the senses and melts the heart.
Like a speck of dust, barely identifiable due to the expanse that surrounds it, I noticed a new-found warmth lingering in the air of our home. It must be the hospitality of accepting a guest to your abode and the comfort of handing a valuable person you hold dear and protect to someone you've already trusted.
"Good evening." Sendoh bowed a full 90 degrees.
Once he recovered, my parents returned the gesture with a smile and Sendoh presented his gifts. He gave my mother the cake box, the wine to my father the next.
"I didn't want to come here emptyhanded so I brought wine and cake." There's a tone of queasiness in Sendoh's voice and he bites his bottom lip every now and then since it was trembling.
It's a bit funny because tonight's the second time Sendoh'll have dinner with us but he's undeniably restless. Maybe he's thinking if my parents will bombard him questions and he'll be demanded to "take care of me" like what other parents do when they discover their child's already in a relationship.
I hope they won't ask too much questions concerning the both of us.
My mother's delicate laugh resonated in my ears, "Thank you, Sendoh-kun. I'll eat this cake as a midnight snack!"
Their hospotality, thankfully, eased Sendoh.
"Shall we go to the dinner table?" Dad suggested, carrying the wine with him.
"Oh, great idea, darling!"
I gave Sendoh a reassuring pat on the back as we followed them. Dad kept the wine in our pantry.
"See? They love you already." I whispered, my lips being too close to Sendoh's ear I felt him shiver.
Sendoh sat beside me after he draped his coat at the back of the chair. Once he laid his hands on the dishes in front of him I saw his eyes twinkle and he turned his head to me swiftly I was afraid his neck snapped and he mouthed a "wow".
I giggled with a proud look misting my eyes and gave his back a pat. I wasn't even the one who cooked those but seeing him amazed gave me satisfaction.
Oh, I did made something simple and I saved it for the later part of the feast.
Mom served us individual bowls of egg drop soup to whet our appetite and to make us warm.
